Key malfunction? just tried start up my car and it won't turn over.... battery is no where near low. I went back up to the house got the spare 2nd key, start right up! i have owned few Benz here n there never experience a merecdes key burned out on me before does this sound right?
any experience or inputs would be greatly appreciated guys

This may sound obvious, but did you replace the batteries in the first key and try it again?

Yes i did, nothing happen, the key would not turn over at all. Iam going to place a order tomorrow for a new chrome key i guess. For the moment i can drive the car on my spare key.

The search function is more intended for the newbies but we established members have a right to ask imo...I never heard of a key failure so you are my first I hope someone bring lite to this...hopefully all will be ok.

The ignition uses an induction coil. A key fob with dead batteries (or batteries removed) won't open the doors but CAN still start the car.

Sounds like something in the circuit burned out. Do you hear the steering lock disengage?

Thanks slammer, that must be it, I do not hear my steering lock disengage! when i insert the key, there were no movements or response form the car whatsoever, I than check my battery voltage came out to be good. At this moment i can only assume something is wrong with the remote key, b/c when i use my spare key it fire right up. As for ppl want to know about the chrome key cost, i ordered thr a dealer with discount i was told should be within 200 dollars for everything. They told me it use to cost only 160ish... but the price went to 200 now.

^^ yeah... this is my 1st time experience key failure. Benz sigh....

I've had one fail but only after my wife washed it but even then it would unlock the steering column. I've replaced it with one of the chrome keys. Much nicer.

If anyone has a new way to obtain the chrome key version without the outrages Stealership price please inform me.

I paid around $160 at Knauz Mercedes. PM aleskandar1999 he told me he paid like $70 for his cause he has some sweet hookup.
