I made it to the dyno today

We I'm not sure if I like the design of the exhaust. I think one side is hanging lower than I want and I think 3 inches is slightly to big. It will take some refining to solve the exhaust problems. The car sounds great but the drone is to much. So there are some big things we have to address.

As for the dyno. I was running stupid fat, down in the 10's we messed with the MAF and it leaned out a bit and i picked up 20whp but it was still fat. So I'm going to call this dyno run inconclusive. I broke my dyno record of 449 but my last pull before i took off my last system was 438whp. We thought maybe I had some bad fule that over 1 month old and.

On the positive side I'm only making 5psi of boost at redline and there is alot of room for retuning. My last setups tune was at the max, now there is alot of room for movement. I'm thinking I will hit the 460-470whp range when its all said and done.

Back on the dyno Monday.

and to top it off some how I have a bent tie rod! WTF??

Oh well. Sure you’ll do better next time ‘round.

Tie rod you say? Bent?! BTDT…https://mbworld.org/forums/3561966-post21.html

Its just about as hard as I thought. I knew the exhaust would be a very tricky game. I personally feel that 3 inch might be to much. IMO it needs total revamping. Its nothing major.

What baffled me was I thought the car would lean out a bit with the A/F but it did the exact opposite and got fat.

I will be back at it on Monday If I can retune and gain something that way then I know I've opened the doors to something. I was dead nutts to the max on the last tune so we will see this coming week when we remap. Good news is no CEL's so thats cool and the car feels good other than being worried about a bent tie rod.

hooleyboy, +1 to TemjinX2's comment... the amount of R&D that you're putting into this is impressive - no doubt it'll show when you get to the final iteration. Agree that 3" dual is probably too big... especially if 99% of the target-market is N/A C55's. Is stock 2.75" piping?

AFAIK, all else being equal, freer-flowing exhaust parts tend to enrichen AFR's - I thought that was "status quo," which your results seem to confirm. As you noted, boost also drops on S/C'd cars (maybe all F/I apps, IDK?).

Keep refining - I'm sure the final results will be worth it!

Fat = rich, Its just in bedded into my head to call it fat, because the owner of Dyno-Comp's name is Rich, So whenever we call it Rich he thinks we are talking to him

Try a set of 14-18'' Magnaflow resonators after X-pipe, they will help with drone. 3'' is fine.

Long tubes mess up the fuel curve dramatically, it will take some time to sort it out. Drive it hard for 30-40 miles and look at your fuel trims, their values will help your tuner.

Good Luck!

Fat is commonly used to describe AFR. It is after all the opposite of lean. Just think of AFR as a cut of meat
