Extended Warranty Dilemma etc. etc.

I'm a relatively new C55 owner, having just picked up my '05 Diamond black a few weeks ago. This forum, particularly the C55 forum has been most helpful to me - from deciding which car to buy, as in very low mileage no CPO versus low mileage with CPO etc.

At the moment, I'm trying to decide whether to buy the extended warranty that will commence after my 12 month CPO expires. Apparently, if I don't buy it within 30 days after purchasing my car, the price is 15% higher. The current pricing is about $2995 for an additional 12 months for total of 24 months coverage, or $3995 for additional 24 months or 36 months total coverage.

My issue is that I own 3 cars at the moment and expect to drive the C55 at most 6000 miles a year, if that. So, question is, would it be worthwhile to buy the extended warranty given people's experience with this car? My car has 31,300 miles by the way, was one owner owned, and appears to be in great shape.

Other nube questions:

1. I want to do the resonator delete. What do I use to replace the resonator? Is it a straight pipe, what size pipe, and does it have to be stainless steel? If so, where can I get that?

2. Do I need to install an X-pipe? I read somewhere here that there is no real X-Pipe on the C55.

3. Can someone tell me how to install the sprint booster on the C55? On my W210 E55, I installed it in the engine bay, but I'm not sure if it's the same with the C55.

4. I could also use instructions for installing the K&N filters, although I suspect that info. may be available in the instruction thread here - the sprint booster install was definitely not.

5. Finally, at least for a while, I only intend to replace hood ornament with flat emblem, install K&N, do the resonator delete, and install a sprint booster. Will a Jerry Tune make a big difference with out any additional hardware mods?

Thanks again in advance for any input on these questions. I look forward to learning more about my car from, and sharing my own experiences with, the community.

As a tech, I highly highly recommend the extended warranty. I would get the 36 month, 100,000 mile if you can. Repairs on these cars can be very pricey, and if something goes wrong you will be very happy with getting the warranty

I purchased an extended warranty when I got my C55. I'm still on my new car warranty so the extended hasn't even kicked in. The only problem I've experienced so far is having to have some gaskets replaced due to some minor oil leaking. Its never a bad idea to purchase extended warranty. With that being said, however, the C55 is probably one of the few AMGs that I would feel a bit more comfortable with not having the extended warranty. If I had a 211 E55 for example I would definitely opt for the extended. In regards to your other questions:

When I had my resonator removed I asked them just to replace it with a straight through pipe of the same diameter. It doesn't have to be stainless steel (mine isint). If you drive your vehicle in the winter where they salt the roads then I would recommend stainless).

As far as the X-pipe is concerned there is no real place to put it on a stock C55 exhaust system.

Installing the K&N filters its a fairly easy procedure. Here's probably the best write up and pictures describing the procedure for removing the airbox etc I've ever seen:

http://www.installuniversity.com/mb/...airfilter.html
Although this is not specifically for the C55 it still mostly applies.

As for the LET/Jerry tune -- I don't have one but have heard good things about it. I'm not sure how much their ECU only tune will provide you. Probably no more or less than any other one...

sprintbooster is installed underneath your throttle pedal. and it doesnt make your car faster or gain hp or tq. it just makes it feel faster by applying more throttle with less actual foot pressure/application

Given the relatively good reliability ratings received from owners on this site and others, I've decided to forego an extended warranty. I've always disliked the concept and dealer tech's in general. I'm also more of a DIY/involved guy so I don't mind doing a lot of things myself.

I'm going to apply the money I would have spent on an extended warranty on parts, special tools, and STAR diagnostic time (that yes, I'd have to pay for at the dealer). But for the most part, I'll do everything myself.

Any of the E/S/SL/CL AMG's though....I would consider the extended warranty.

I paid approx $1900 (dealer cost) for the full MB 7-yr 100 K warranty when I picked up my C55 in Feb this year.

Shop around...

I bought my car in March '08 and paid $2200 for a 6 yr 60,000 waranty from Carmax. $5900 in repairs for replaced throttle positon sensor, radiator, transmission and torque converter to cover the dreaded coolant leak into the trans, cost me only $125. With Carmax, if you take it to their shop you pay $50 or $75 if you take it anywhere else. The sesond time my car went in, I took it straight to the MB dealer because they give out free loaners. The extra $25 was well worth driving around a new Benz for 2 weeks while my carwas being worked on.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like there are less expensive options for the warranty. It's not clear whether these cheaper options were also from Mercedes dealers. If so, I might have to look into those.

Thanks for the instructions and the res delete info. I might just get that done today if the shop can squeeze me in!

res delete = best mod for this car. in a day or two, the sound you hear will be how it should have come from the factory (i say a day or two b/c for some reason whenever touched my exhaust, it took that long for my exhaust muffler to like rebreak in and get a new sound)

....finding that sprintbooster install link for ya....
