c32: 02 vs 03

03. just do it.
ok.
02s have the potentially faulty radiator
and the 03 in question has a brand new supercharger...meaning you have all relatively new pulleys and wouldnt run into a potential bearing problem for a while. any idea why it was replaced or when?
navigation is not a plus, but it has it.
check the service history for both cars and make sure that seat modules on both the front seats have been replaced. also check if there is any past glycol contamination and see if/when the intercooler pump was replaced.

Plus +1, get the 03. Ask about radiator since some early 03s had the bad one!!

the replaced supercharger and being a 2nd owner vehicle on the 2003 will instantly stop me from purchasing it.
radiator can be easily checked out and replaced within $400 vs the "why" of the supercharger needing to be replaced at only 75k miles. just arrange to get it checked out before making the purchase.
no NAV on 2002? get a portable Garmin or Magellen or Sony or Pioneer. all much better than the Comand.

the better deal is the 03 with 75k miles. its priced a lot closer to KBB trade in value. the 02 with 60k miles is listed near the "poor condition" price for private party. both are good deals, just saying that the 03 is a better deal if you are comparing what its worth vs. what its selling for.

The pulley and its bearing (112 090 00 44) is available separately, and a darn sight less expensive than a new supercharger (112 090 00 80). They’re ~$875 and $5100 MSRP, respectively. One might be inclined to believe that a dealership being wholly reimbursed for their parts and labor by third party insurance coverage is more likely to simply replace entire units rather than pursuing more cost effective solutions.
Seasoned members here know of the replacement NSK bearing that’s available for $50, as well as several other ways of keeping ‘em roadworthy without having to throw good money after bad.
see el kay?-
They’re cheap to buy and fun to drive.
Stash away a few dollars for the repairs that will inevitably accompany any used car purchase, especially a C32.

I do not believe the bearing clutch pack was available in 02 and maybe 03. Dealers were replacing the whole SC for bearing noise, belt noise, the dreaded 1500rpm surge, etc. There may have been nothing wrong with the original.

i can see the dealership just throwing parts at it like they usually do. I don't know if its true or not, but if you search for past supercharger fs posts, thats the story they give.... I still think 03 is a better deal. A compression test should show if there any problems with the engine itself.

send the 02 to a benz dealer for prebuy inspection. cost varies from 50 to 150 $ . then use the report to deal the price down to less than 12k! most of the issues listed here have been done by everyone here.
when i bought my 32 the price was 21,250 dealed it down to 18,000 after inspection reveled 2500$ in repairs he agreed to drop it 2500 and i would assume the repairs. cost to diy was less than 700 in parts.
