SL55 intake

I was trying to order some parts online and i came across what seemed to be the famous sl55 Y intake pipes, and i just wanted some clarifications to make sure im ordering the right part. and for what i remember it shoud be a plug and play deal. I atached a picture and IMO #12 on the picture is the Y pipe (air distributor) i found it for $67 is that a good price ? and is that all I need ?

All you need for what?
1. Install a SL55 "Y" splitter or
2. Install the full SL55 setup?
Yes $67 sounds like a great price

you need more than part 12. thats what attaches directly to the TB. you need the hose connectors between the splitter and the airboxes (9 and 10) and the clamps (2 x 11)....basically everything pictured in "8".....thats just to make the complete splitter part. obviously, if you want the full intake, you also need the airboxes, filters if you dont have 55 size ones, and the intake hoses.

From my past experience, that is an old diagram and they do not make the Y-pipe in parts like that anymore. They make it all as one piece(9,10,11,12) ONLY now. Essentially it's piece #8. If you order it, they will call or email you back and tell you you cannot order that one piece and you can order the whole part for more.

Oh yeah, and IF you do get the SL55 Y-Splitter, it fits so freakin tight back against the firewall, one of the clips sticks out and will eventually cut a hole through it. You will need to address that issue one way or another. I basically slipped a piece of sheet metal between the Y-Splitter and the clip.(Mickey Mouse) I think Jturkel grinded it off with a dremel.(proper way)

It's not exactly plug and play. It's not too hard to put in, but it will need some massaging to sit right.

Have you looked at the C3P intake? Same gains (or more) and sounds sooo much better, assuming you like the SC whine. Easier install, cost less, uses stock parts.

I still have full warranty as well....along with everything in my sig. I've had many claims and never had an issue getting covered. Res delete shouldn't be an issue at all.

its hard to say if i felt a dramtic difference in the sl55 intake. i have so many mods and recently got a full tune along with res delete and secondary cat delete. that with c3 pulley im just getting used to all the power over stock. its definatley flowing more air than oem but im running 3" tubes and a host of other intake mods

you can make it yourself for around $25. There's a diy somewhere around here or i'll sell you mine for $40. Its more of a mod then a actual brand new intake.

you need 12, 9, and 10 and then make a smaller short hose that's big enough to go over the stock airbox, but small enough to go inside the 9 and 10 tube part on the airbox end.

IMO easier to just purchase the entire 55 airbox assembly that I've seen some 55k ppl are selling and cheaper than buying them new.

Yeah, I just bought the whole SL55 intake off of a member on this forum. When I installed it, my car was stock and I did notice a difference in the low end and a pretty measurable gain in the high end. Somewhere on here there is a thread with before and after dyno numbers. Also, if you're interested in the C3P intake, you can get it here: http://www.hpashop.com/category.sc?categoryId=58

take your pick. the c3 is just an open filter at the t/b. i built a larger version (6" square) just for fun. works good for about 20min then the heat from the engine bay soaks in and power drops. sl55 is 3" diameter right into the t/b. no heat soak there. if you want loud sounding s/c go c3. if you want power go full sl55 setup or at least the intake.
as a side note the only reason i dont have the full setup is i wanted to keep my m/b center piece. i was willing to give up some pony's to have good looks!

Dynos? "Full" 55 intake vs. C3 seems to be darn near even on dynos I've seen. Remove baffles, bigger box, larger intake tubes (like the 55 has) and the modded C3 has more. The full let intake has shown the most gains, then the modded C3, then the SL intake, from what I've seen with before/after dynos posted.
Modded C3 intake also cost a faction of the full SL55 and the C3 sounds 10x's better. (subjective of course but I sure love that SC whine up top!)

look at what the srt-6 crowd is running . there is no way a filter at the t/b with the restricted oem boxes flows more cold air than a sl55 setup. i have run both setuos and a custom modded oem setup. the c3 sounds better but more hp? i doubt it
the sl55 is a full 3" setup from the rad support thru the larger than oem airboxes to the t/b. the c3 is simply a filter at the t/b which sucks in hot air after 20 min.

+1 plus I don't see how an open end at the TB helps when you have air rushing through the airbox when the car is going at speed. my normal logic tells me that the whatever air volume that's pushed through the airbox when the car gets going will end up being pushed out of the opening with the C3 setup. maybe on a hotter day it would let hot air escape lol
