hood shocks..

Okay.. well about 2 weeks ago i left my hood up, which i shouldn't have, but the next morning i came out to the hood shut. In which case my work light was jammed in between the hood and bumper. My hood looks a bit off now btw.

Anyways, its coming down to working on the car now and i got hood shocks real quick from advance.. which is probably another mistake i made

I get them.. notice you can't compress them with your hands, which i thought was odd.. but i searched the internet and they said thats normal, but install them and they should work..

so i did.

and they still won't compress. i didn't put a whole lot of pressure on trying to close the hood, but it ain't budging.

anybody else had this problem? Should i return them or is there something i'm missing.

ok hood shock when you open the hood does it open all the way to a 90degree angle if you look at the the shock it should have a red tab on the driver side it the tab is not where its supposed to be you might not be able to close the hood

no, these aren't the OEM versions, in which case i thought about that after i bought them.. but i can do without the 90 degree opening of the hood. The ones i took off have the tab but i never used it.

I wouldn't think the lack of that being there would make a difference in opening and closing the hood like normal.

They are usually locked when you buy them, and there is a small clip you remove to allow them to compress.

I've made the same mistake twice with regards to the 90 degree hood. I opened it up all the way to do some work, then upon jacking the car up the hood hit the garage door. Lame that I did that twice now!

This is very easy to do and just requires a small flat head screw driver. There are two point in which the hood strut connects to the car and the hood. There is a small clip and you should be able to locate an access point for your screw driver. Pry the clip up and you should be able to remove the bottom portion of the hood strut. You do not have to completely remove the clip from the strut, but if you decide to be careful because the clip will fly off when removing it. You will do the same procedure to remove the strut from the top where it connects to the hood. To install all you have to do is push the new one in to position and you're done. Very simple.
