C55 rear differential cooling fin part number...

searched for like 40min...nothing came up. searched the one stop search thread as well...

does anyone have the part number for the C55 rear diff cooling fins?

I was only able to find this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32MitUM1D0g freeze frame it at 7:56 which has a close up on the cooling fin, but I can't make out what part number it is.

A xxx 351 0x 08 was all I was able to tell.

We need a C55 guy to look under their car to get the part number. A photo would be nice as well. Any C55 volunteers?

Is this it? Not 100%, but it's the only thing that looks like a cooler, but the description is just "covering" If you are not sure I can take a look under my car when I get a chance. I have not seen one in person yet.

buy one and just bolt it on.

from some search they should be direct bolt-on to the C32 and from the video linked above they look like the fins are mounted onto the subframe and then making contact with the diff to allow cooling, so we should only need the fin and the two bolts. I will take a look under the car first before go ahead to order it.

Have often admired those heatsinks under newer AMGs.
Supposedly they're not an easy bolt-on, as the pumpkin must first be removed from the subframe.

No doubt a pleasant fashion accessory, just didn’t have the foresight to have one installed during the course of my Quaife ATB retrofit.

so I was able to ask the C32 ppl from Taiwan on their mercedes/AMG forums as they have done this a lot. They said you do not have to change out the rear cover for the diff, but you will need a adapter mount. I'm trying to see how/what kind of mount it is.

Jokingly my friend said we should find a cheap asian company to manufacture "generic" cooling heatsinks "as used by AMG models!" and sell them for about 1000% markup on eBay.

Nah, Frank, merely saying JonMBZ’s aforementioned C55 A171 351 01 08 “rectifier bridge” -conveniently pilfered from the SLK55 hardware bin for use on several other models- seems the correct OE part.
Far be it from me to question a respected member with 20,000+ posts.
Had some difficulty with the fonts in that video ;). Sharp wagon though...

When you’ve the straight scoop on their setup, how ‘bout importing a few for the other incorrigibles?

I found a local shop in Taipei Taiwan that the guys recommend from the Taiwan forums saying that they have what we will need to make the fin bolt-on. I can't give them a call, but I will ask my brother's friend in Taiwan who's a BMW/Mini buff (whom I borrowed the Cooper S from when I went back) to call them and inquiries about it.

if possible maybe purchase them for someone that wants it and possibly bring the cost down. IMO it should not be too expensive if the fin itself is only listed at $107 as jon posted.

OK guys, I had my friend called the shop in Taiwan that has the adapter kit including mounting hardware they said. it is about $120 plus shipping. The shop has 5 sets right now which of course I'll be taking one, so that leaves 4

so whoever want one tell me right away here or in PM!!!!!!

I'm trying to see how much shipping will be right now.

the shop that has these is the same shop that did the car in the video in the first post!!!

$120 for the adapter kit. no cooling fins. you can get the cooling fins at dealership for $107 posted by jon.

I already ordered my cooling fin. will be picking it up tomorrow and have told my buddy in Taiwan to get the adapter kit for myself already.

This may be a stupid question, but does this fin actually cool the diff or is it more of a cosmetic thing? Maybe a better question is, How does it work?

According to the C55 MB press release, the differential cooling fins could cool the differential by up to 15 degrees celsius when pushing the car at continuous high speeds.

If you don't track your car regularly, it probably isn't necessary at all. And if you're doing it for cosmetics, it certainly won't be the most obvious thing for most people to notice.

yup, but it's a relatively cheap mod and it should benefit my canyon runs.

it works just like your computer heat sink btw.

the flat area of the bottom of the diff should make plenty of contact point. of course, heat sink gel will probably have to be used.
