My New Used C55
I will be picking it up today after work.
First mods I plan to do are things to improve efficiency and power. Air filters, oil, pulleys, headers, and ecu.
I think I might start with the ECU since they are claiming +2mpg, however, I do know that when I put some ceramic coated headers on my V8 camaro, there was a huge difference in gas mileage. Not to mention the underhood temps stayed MUCH cooler. Best investment.
I'm just not sure how long I will have this car before I get the itch to buy something else. This one has the classy and sporty look as opposed to the boy-racer look of the Mazda. Not that I'm complaining about the Mazda....that car was a blast! My only complaint was the really stiff suspension and uncomfortable seats. Aside from that, the car handled like you wouldn't believe, was fast stock, even faster with my mods, and got about 25mpg city and 33hwy with relatively sane driving habits. Unfortunately, I could not maintain those habits because it was just too much fun listening to that turbo.
Time to grow up a bit I guess. My only fear with this car is that I will start sinking money into it and then realize I want something like the E55 or a different one! Haha. If only this thing was a little cheaper to modify....
I am already going to start pimping the auto! I won't be able to pick it up today since I am going to have the dealer bring it over and get the windows tinted.
Next up will be the resonator removal and some good all-season tires. I have a feeling those summer tires just will not cut it on snow-packed roads.
I didn't notice an improvement in gas mileage after I put my headers on. I have the kleemann mid length headers, downpipe and tune.
Then again, my right foot is heavier now so that negates all positive mpg improvements that may have occured lol.
How much did it cost getting those headers installed? I would like to do the ECU, but I think that would void the warranty on it. I will just have to stick to warranty friendly mods for now. Not in a financial position to be care free about that....yet. Fake it until you make it though right? If I had my six figures worth of student loans paid off I wouldn't think twice. Patience I guess...

I think the C55 will be a great car for entering into the MB world. I think the car I would really prefer to have is an SL-series AMG. I remember doing an internship downtown Chicago and seeing a guy drive by in one of those. It was an SL55 and that thing sounded amazing! He even gave me a little show as he noticed me admiring the car.
I think I need a cold shower.....
Yeah, it's a little 600. I am just starting out and it's enough until I become a more experienced rider.
I talk to the new owner of my old C55 from time to time.. Its funny because I didnt think he knew how fast it was until he drove it the other day. 482whp and 580wtq with on a 265 rear tire, Is like a Hanson brother on ice skates.. It will be all over the place, but if you're not carefull the car will punch you in the face...
Man I still get chills from that car. Racing the Audi R8, and obliterating it like 4 times in a row. I would give up any record and all my Youtube videos for a video of that race(s). It was a sight to see.
Want to see me get caught sleeping it the tree? Listen for the trans slip from 1st to 2nd

wanna tune my car? lmao
Which parts can be cross referenced between vehicles? I think the exhaust system is going to be my starting point for mods. I'm also looking to keep everything emissions compliant...its the tree hugger in me.
What I would really like to do is build a custom turbo for it. I think that would cost too much time and money though.
Does the Renntech ECU upgrade void the warranty?
Would that be a better starting point than the exhaust?
I know ceramic coated headers made a huge difference on my Camaro.
What kind of A/F ratio does this thing have stock?

The C55 is where it all started for me and long tube headers. My original design had cats installed. No check engine lights. It was a cool setup.
As a result of modding my C55... I basically took it to the NA limit and then on to the supercharged limit. peaking at about 355whp with an N/A set up then on to 482whp with a S/C setup.
In my humble opinion, If I was starting all over with a C55 and keeping it N/A. I would do exhaust mods first. The reasoning behind this is... When You go to get a custom tune. The tuner can add more to the file when a car is fitted with headers. For example: A car fitted with headers can a have more ignition added to the tune over a car on a stock setup.
Even on a custom turbo setup. You will be limited to how much boost you can have. The C55 from my experience can handle 10-12psi of boost. At 11:1 C/R its rather impressive. If you tossed those kind of numbers at a Mustang GT or a G35, the motor would crumble. I've seen it a few times. Thats a real testament as to how well made the C55's engine is made.
With that said, A turbo would sound nice and save some weight. However the superchargers out there for this car can make that amount of boost all day long.
In reality it will come down to how rock solid the tune is for the car though.
I guess my next issue would be cost. Running boost will make some wicked power, but for the cost I almost think it would be worth it to make my way into something like the E55 and the start modding.
I just can't stand to think about leaving my car stock. I do know that within several years, I will end up upgrading to a different car and I will end up taking a hit on the money I put into this one.
When you were making 355whp, what was your mod list?

Renntech tune
Renntech airbox
Evosport headers
Random technology Cats
first attempt dual custom exhaust (stock mufflers)
K&N filters
I think thats it???
I wonder what kind of bump in power you could get with a bump in compression. Also, I haven't looked much, but does anyone make cams for the C55?
How hard was it to fit that E55 supercharger on there?
What size TB is on the car? Have you done measured any flow rates to look for areas of improvement?
I bet if we were working together, we could safely squeeze more than the 355....of course one would really have to question whether or not it would be worth the cost.
I made 337 rwhp and I just have the kleemann tune, headers, k&ns and no cats. I actually took off my k&n's and put in fresh OEM ones.
You notice much of a difference when you did a true dual exhaust? I'm thinking that the route I should go with an x-pipe right after the headers.

Both times I ran the bike the DA was in the 2500+ range here in San Antonio. I am planning to take it back to the track once cooler weather comes around.
