So yesterday morning after replacing my ICpump I went to start the car, when I opened the door I noticed the menu screen was really dim, I turned the key and the car started but kind of hesitant and threw a "Light sensor fault" or something like that. This morning it did the same thing, temperature is in the low 30's, battery is not original MB it is Interstate.. I don't think it is the alternator as the car will start normally after the first time.. Anybody else have similar problems..? Can the temperature be the cause..? Thanks for your imput..

Interesting.. all I have to input on this one is my 02' C32 the menu screen will change in brightness/contrast according to the outside temperature. On a really hot day it gets quite blurry and washed out.. but will be fine on the next engine start up. Quite odd..

temperature definitely has an effect on battery performance, as well as a host
of other factors. but the only way you're going to be able to determine conclu-
sively is to check the battery. you should check fluid level, check specific
gravity, check static voltage as well as dynamic load test.

all the other issues are causal effects which may/not be directly tied so the
trick is to systematically isolate. i know some folks will gauge poor start, or
error codes and to pay for new battery only to find out the root cause may
have been something else. try to avoid tossing cash into the wind, but to
hand it over only when the cause has been verified.

when mine went it was giving me a low voltage warning on the comand and also it seemed like it would go "ta ta ta ta ta" longer before starting.

On my Pontiac when the battery went I was getting check engine lights, abs faults, coolant temp warnings. Cars now a days use the batteries as capacitors for times of heavy electrical load. When it craps out things don't run right.

That is definitely know for the w203 pre-facelift.. There is actually a thread on a group buy for a new cluster screen.. The cluster and lights where dimming while the engine was cranking.. Something i have never experienced before..

Interesting.. My issue gave me a "Light Sensor Fault" and definitely felt like the car was not going to start but then again you have a c55, the menu probably has changed as well as the faults..

Cool, I will look into the thread. It's only happened bad (where I can't read anything on the cluster screen) a handful of times. Not something I'm overly worried about, just a pity the problem is even there being a AMG.
