Finally! Its happening!
i want to thank everyone on this forum for your help with everything. i have started an automotive technology program in my high school, when i am finished here i will be sertified technician in german automobiles, after high school i will be attending either UTI Mercedes Start program or ATI techinical training center for my ASE certification. after all that i will be going to an advanced school for Mercedes AMG vehicles specifically! these cars are my passion and im pushing to work and service them, my dream to get all the knowledge i need for these cars and work at a dealer fro awhile. after a few years of making some money i want to start my own private shop for these cars and start to offer performance add ons such as intalling exhausts and superchargers etc. it will take some time but i am certain i will make it. i have to thank you all because without this forum and the people on it i wouldnt have a clue what im doing with these cars let alone knowing so much about them. in my class at school it has come to the point were i only work on mercedes. we have parents of the other students bring there cars in for service, repairs and all sorts of things and im the first and only one to touch them! i love these cars and the challenge they present.
thank you to everyone

Cool stuff! Every time I drop my car off at my independent Mercedes mechanic (shout out: Silver Star Motors, Vienna, VA) I think to myself, in another life I sure would reap a good deal of enjoyment and contentment from working at a Mercedes specialty shop. Best of luck to you in your endeavor.

Careful in choosing UTI. You'll pay a lot of money for something that technically isn't a real degree. When you get out to the real world, most shops will start you as an oil change monkey anyway.
Be wise in your decisions.

Man its not as glamorous as it may seem. Ive seen the top and Ive seen the bottom of it as my dad worked as a tech for Mercedes as well as independent shops and owned one as well. Sure, there was a time when he was making over 100k working at a MB dealership, however times have changed. Working on cars is fun, but when its not yours and your 60 years old still working on cars its not too fun...Id figure out an early retirement plan because that job is definitely not easy on the body. Just some things Ive noticed! Best of luck to you!

I say "go for it," your 17... what do you have to loose? Just use this as a stepping stone to further your education (ie as an application booster for a degree earning program). Or you could always couple it with business / entrepreneurship and hope to open your own shop one day.

Every dealership is different, but you can make a boat load as a SA if you are loyal to the dealer. Some of these guys who have been around for a few decades have built up a good customer base and make a small fortune. Others are just sleezeballs that come and go, just like their counter parts on the sales floor.

+1 as weird as it sounds...we're the next gen. and i don't think i know anyone in our age group that likes to work on amg in particular as much as the OP. actually no one. i wish that more people in our age group could be like us instead of people who sit at home or box up their car all day getting high.

Really sorry to hear that man! too many households sit and collect welfare and "unemployment" checks and set the example for their offspring that this is what you can do to get by in life.serious respect to all those educating themselves and following their passion with it.

Good luck. A very close friend of mine went to UTI and graduated to work on Mercedes. He is 1 of 2 authorized techs to do PPI's on AMG's such as the SL65 BS. If you get tired of turning wrenches try becoming a service manager; which is what he is now. Stay focused and good luck.
