Mustang Kill

So I was down in Mexico yesterday evening, had a early 90's fox body mustang playing a little game of chase with me. don't know what is motor was like, he had a cowl induction hood, Weld lightweight wheels with drag radials in the back, looked like it might have had a slight tubbing too, All kind of extra gauges on his A-pillar and one of the big Auto-Meter Tachs on the Dash. Had a decent lope to it.

So when we came up to a stop light he did the typical rev,rev saying he wanted to have a go. We took off from a light, He got a fender length jump on me and I pulled hard and had a half car length on him by 60 when I had to slow because I was coming up on a car in front of me. At the next light we did it again, this time I tried Manual mode. we had a dead even start, I hit the shift button at 6K and ended up hitting the limiter before shifting (giving him a almost a full car length) So after that I shifted at 5500, which seemed to put the shifts right at 6500. I was still able to pull on him and over take even with the missed shift. He let off at about 70 when I had a full car length on him. At next light he had a total look of bewilderment, the girl in the passenger seat was laughing at him, and he didn't try to race again. It definitely wasn't stock, but I don't know how built up it was.

I have also found that when in Manual mode, shifting above 4500 RPMs the shifter needs an additional 400 rpm wiggle room to properly pull-off the upshift. Annoying, especially when compared to modern day auto-manual technology in some cars. However, it is what one would expect coming from almost ten year old AutoStick Mercedes technology.

Nice kill as well!

Nice kill

I ran a SC mustang a few years ago in manual mode and did the same thing. Rev limiter sucks. I was sitting at a light and wasn't sure if the Mustang was going to go so I waited until I heard him rev. He had a good .5 sec on me before I hit the throttle. I thought no worries, I will reel him in quick which I did until I hit rev limit in first. He lurches forward during my moment of no power. Power comes back on with a vengeance with the shift to second creating an impressive chirp for auto tranny. Once again, I start reeling him in quick. He gets out of it. I ask him to run again at the next light. He says "NO" and then something about how he didn't think he would beat me so badly.

You think you could hang with even a slightly "built up" foxbody?
Let's be realistic here, you ran a turd with some cosmetic mods and an exhaust.. Congrats

Nice kill, no telling what he had or didnt have.

A had a Dinan Super Charged E36 BMW M3 in 2000 and ran into the same scenario with a fox body, unfortunately that one had a built motor and turbo, I got destroyed lol, the sad part - I was waving at him as I was pulling away, until he hit the gas and it was all over, embarassing

Nice kill, but I don't think I would ever waste gas racing a fox body. Not worth the potential embarrassment of getting my **** handed to me by a 20 year old 'Stang!

Surprising he had all those doodads in his dash, no?

Good kill!!!

I just keep her in "S" and let the auto do her thing.....................ON the C32 as well.

I agree above ^^^ that in M the shifter does need some rev room to make the shift up for some reason, like its thinking about what YOU want to do??

Hey dingle... I belive I said, I don't know how built up it was... I don't know too many LX 5.0 Stang owners that only do the show... the guys I know that have LX stangs have more go and less show.

The show he had was nice, so I figured he had a little tweak in there somewhere.

I'll be more blunt about it.

It wasn't built up.

Fun Kill..not surprising even for a modded fox body. To hang ith you as he did, he was prolly modded tho.

Now if you get into truly built up foxbodies...diff story.

LX 5.0s and GTs from 1987-95 ran the quarter in the low 15s stock, sometimes high 14s on a good day. The C32 and C55 are about 2 seconds faster, which is like about 35 car lengths isn't it?

Granted, most Foxes are modified to some degree or other by now but unless it had a supercharger on it, I wouldn't think these 'Stangs would present much of a challenge to an AMG W203. I would have probably ignored him myself.

2 seconds is about 308 feet at 105 MPH, BUT since you're not doing that till the end, more like +/- 200 feet divided by the length of C32, so perhaps 15-20 cars!! Certainly no more than that..

1/10th of a second = roughly 1 car length in a 1/4 mile

2 seconds = roughly 20 car lengths

2 seconds = 35 car lengths =

exact same issue with my C43, I shift manually and then a couple hundred RPM later it shifts. Pretty sure this is inherent with any MB that isn't a 65 or BS

Hey Dingle...
A stock '93 Mustang LX 5.0L is only pushing out 235hp at crank. So even if he was pushing 300 hp that would take some building to add 65 hp. even at 300 HP even though his power to weight ratio would have been closer, I still had the advantage. So I am still going on the Idea that he was at least mildly modified.

Don't ask DB, everything is either a "turd" or a "ripoff."
