Parting Ways

Well, I decided it was time for a new car....and the winner is....

New 2011 Mustang GT Premium Convertible. Performance white with red leather interior.

The AMG has been fun. I will be back someday, but I think when I come back, I will be sporting probably either an E63 or SL55.

Peace out!

talk about a downgrade. i know they have good modding potential, but from a C55? sounds like a midlife crisis to me.

enjoy the mustang

Brand new, smoother ride (IMO), more power, better gas mileage, better safety rating (I know, I was surprised to read the ratings on IIHS), and better gas mileage.

Sure, it may not be perfect or exclusive like the C55, but I've been wanting to get into a newer AMG for a while. I got a pretty good financing offer which will actually allow me to start shifting into a better financial position.

And it is more like a quarter life crisis. ****, I'm only 26. Haha. I'm hoping I live a little longer than 52. Lots more cars for me to buy...lol

The next one I want to buy is after I have a house and a garage to put it in.

Did you not just post a thread regarding "Suspension Upgrade" for you're C55 yesterday?

https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...n-upgrade.html

"Suspension Upgrade
Hello Everyone.

I was looking for people to provide me some feedback on suspension work they have done.

My main focus is to improve the ride quality. The roads in my area are not the smoothest (there's an understatement) and I'm starting to get annoyed with feeling EVERY little road imperfection.

I am even considering getting into a different car, but I sure as hell would need a really good offer to let it go for less than trade in blue book value.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated."

Nice ride.

Throw some longtubes + tune on that GT and slaughter 99% of the C55's out there.

Edit: Slap on some heads and cams and harass the supercharged AMG's as well

I like the new Rustangs. The 5.0's are super nice. Good work. How much did they give you for your trade in?

Sorry to see you leave. You need to own a GT Mustang at least once in your life. Still one of the original American Muscle Cars.
(My pre Euro cars would make my sig too long for most forums. But I've owned Mustangs from 65 to 70, HiPo 289's and 351 Clevelands with top loaders and Detroit lockers). Have fun with it, but you'll be back.

Done the same thing myself and just took my C32 for its last burn around the neighbourhood before it hits the showroom floor on Monday. Muscle cars have great tuning potential so mine should keep me occupied until the twin turbo V8 C- class comes out - that's in about 3 years time. I thought my Merc was expensive to maintain, but I would like to supercharge my Chev, install an big brake kit plus suspension and 20 inch wheels/tyres, fit a complete new exhaust and tune - not cheap!

Not bad, I really like the facelift Mustangs. I'm 6'4" so my only real complaint when I drove one was the steering wheel and shifter were too far away. The one I drove was a 10 that still had the 4.6L, but the feel of it was right.

Nice! If it hadn't been for Pontiac going under, I probably would have bought a G8 GT instead of my C55. I was just worried about parts availability like the GTO. Hopefully GM sell sell the Lumina to the public after a year or so, it's such a great car.

I love the newer 11+ stangs, good luck with your new car. If it were me (and I've been looking for the daughter), I'd get the 5.0 GT Premium convertible!!! A stang is not a stang unless its a convertible.

That 5.0 is also bolt-on modifiable as you know. Get the SC and you'll be harassing Vettes!!

I can't believe you guys still don't get the Lumina SS in the States - it's basically an American muscle car made in Australia. What I love most about mine is its uncomplicated design, unlike like my highly strung C32, nothing ever breaks. With a custom built supercharger and cooling system, head/valve and cam job guys are able to push 600hp on the motor and they are damn reliable. With just a proper exhaust and tune they sound amazing. Hard to believe it runs on a single camshaft!

We had it for 2 years as the Pontiac G8. They should have made it the new Impala as soon as Pontiac went under. The Lumina looks exactly like an Impala replacement. They need to to something with the Impala soon anyway, it's looking terrible with the new Cruze and the facelifted Malibu.

The LS series motors are indeed extreamly reliable. We've got a customer at work with an 05 Corvette he bought brand new that is now putting down over 400hp to the wheels with 130k+ miles on it that he drives every day.

Newb - as a former Mustang Cobra owner, I can tell you that these things are SCARY at speed.....you won't even make it to 27 if you ever try to do more than about 120 in this thing on a DOT roadway....I used to track my car all the time and had it set up WELL....and it was still an ill-handling brick driving down the highway. Stick to stoplight-to-stoplight "thrill runs" and you'll be fine, but make no mistake...this AIN'T no C55 for high speed cruisin!

Just my $.02

The 2011 GT is a completely different animal. With any competent driver, it will downright humiliate a C55.

Dude - I'm with you on the new car being WORLDS better than the previous few platforms....but it's still a large, heavy, live rear axle car that requires great skill to get performance anywhere remotely similar to that available from a C55.

Also, from a performance perspective, on a track everybody is looking out for you, and you are all going 10/10ths in the same direction on a very wide piece of pavement so when the car steps out over a ripple bump in mid-corner, you can usually recover and keep going....not at all the same if the cutesy pony decides to perform the same 'live rear axle' trick in the middle of an on or off ramp or over sharp edged highway seams. I'm just saying....there's a reason that every real performance car has independent rear suspension....

Kudos to Newb anyway, as the Mustang clearly fits the bill for what he needs in his life right now and I agree that the C55 is VERY far from perfect in a lot of ways....

10/10ths? I take it you're racing competitively wheel-to-wheel?

The 2011 Mustang GT gives the vaunted E92 M3 an honest run.
