a pointman-like awesome-terribleness pointless thread
Following on from here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...rightness.html
I've finally thought of a pointman-like pointless thread. Here goes:
"What's in your trunk?"
I am paranoid about emergencies, especially in the winter time or on road trips. Thus in my trunk right now (not in the C55, it's actually parked for the winter, so actually vis a vis my A4 Avant) are the following (I actually have similar stuff in all of our vehicles, with the exception of the mobile start, which I just move around when necessary):
-mobile start / portable battery thingy, like this: http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/pr...=1357684125894
-in addition to the factory tool kit, I have a cheap set of wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers and a set of pliers, all wrapped up in a cheap and simple tool roll
-spare litre of engine oil. BMWs have a niftly little bag designed to hold a single litre, complete with plastic gloves and velcro on the outside so it sticks to the trunk floor or walls. My buddy works at a shop with lots of higher end, second hand European stuff and he has grabbed a few of these for me.
-jumper cables
-in my S2000, because I have ditched the spare, I also carry a can of foam sealer
-and actually not in the trunk, but in the glove box, I have in each car a tire pressure gauge and a small flashlight.
winter time:
-spare jug of washer fluid
-snow brush (duh) - I like the extendable ones so I can be lazy and not have to reach so far, but I don't want to pay $20 for one, so I pick them up on sale. Also, because my wife is 5" and drives the Rover, she needs a long brush
-traction claws, or "tow truck in a box", these steel thingies with teeth on one side, like this:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
-collapsible shovel. I used to have a flimsy plastic one, but have been eying the Eddie Bauer aluminum ones for a long while now, but they keep getting sold out before I get a chance to buy one. Or rather, I never buy them at regular price (~$40 locally) so I wait for Boxing Day sales (two years in a row now!) but they are sold out before I get a chance to grab one. Instead, we were at Costco the other day and I got a two pack for about $20, so cheap cheap is good. Looks like the same as Eddie Bauer's version. Just need to find a nice little carrying case (which the Eddie Bauer ones come with) and I'm all set:
http://www.eddiebauer.com/catalog/pr...mPathInfo=T307
road trips:
-I'm still working on compiling these parts, but for long trips I aim to carry a spare MAF sensor. I say compiling because I have a spare for our Land Rover but not yet for the other cars in the fleet
-also a few car care products, like a can of throttle body/carb cleaner, glass cleaner and some rags
-sub category - winter road trips - also carry along a big pair of warm winter boots if possible
-small tire repair kit, for plugging punctures
-I also want to acquire a few more tool kits for each car, but specifically a small ratchet set with various bits, including torx. Similar in idea to this, but not with a T-handle ratchet, rather the ratchet can reach smaller places and looks more like a wrench:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
And all of our vehicles have cargo nets, to hold stuff down. Never seems to keep the watermelon in place though, which is a pain....

-spare liter of engine oil
-tire pressure gauge

Road trips:
-An extra liter of oil.
don't have a cargo net in the back of mine though. I want one though.. I used to have one in my C36 and it was great.

I still have the brown paper bag with all the stuff I cleaned out of my Miata's trunk before selling it. I tend to procrastinate.
Contents of bag: a smaller brown bag full of mechanics gloves (found in '68 F250, also sold), odd tools, jumper cables, tennis ball, and a pair of my girlfriends heels. Panties were left in said Miata

I would like a Weathertech trunk liner for my A4. I have an OE one for the C55, and it works with the cargo net, but I'm not sure if the Weathertech one will. I know there are actually two OE accessory cargo nets for the 203 sedans, one with higher sides (which won't work with the cargo net) and the one without, which obviously does work.

Cargo net looks like a cargo net! Mesh with hooks on the end.
My mistake, I thought that I had bought the trunk may but I hadn't! Fail. Haven't driven my car in so long!
Cargo net part number is 6-7-66-0063.

In my trunk: Tyre slime, oil, gloves, electrical cleaner, throttle body cleaner, water, couple of tools. Pretty boring stuff.....subscribed to pointless pointman like thread!!! : need inspiration to have something extra ordinary.

I forgot to add, I also try to keep another pair of winter gloves in the trunk in winter time - for pumping gas. I don't like to use my 'nice' gloves when doing so, don't want them to smell like gas!
