C32 Quad Ram Air Intake!!

Thought there might be a few C32 owners interested in this DIY Mod!! Added 2 extra 1.12" tubes + I have the existing 2 2 inch tubes, all the ram air of a NW intake for a lot less $ and keeping the Mercedes look under the hood!

Looks good.. Any before and after dyno runs..? Is that plastic on the "T" that connects to the throttle body..? Looks like it might restrict some air coming from the intake pipes..

That would be copper fitting and JB weld, I cant see how there would be any restrictions,,

No dyno tests yet, I'm gonna take it to EC in Houston and have them put it on the dyno, maybe they can tweak the tune a bit and I'll see what I can get out of it,,

I made the adapter plate on the T out of 10ga Aluminum.

Size isn't always the only thing that dictates flow and those direction changes are killing flow. Air-velocity absolutely hates 90degree turns. I'd venture to say w/ what I've read, velocity can be more important to combustion than volume and velocity is very easy to disrupt.

When looking at an OEM T, or any T as far as that goes, I can see 2 90 degree turns, I don't know what your seeing

No matter what you do, there's got to be 90 degree turns to make it to the back of the throttle body, it is coming out the back facing the firewall,,,

I understand that, but think of the entire intake as a straw. You can hook a bigger funnel to the end of the straw, but there will be no more flow than if you didn't have that funnel due to the straw being the same size as before. Those bends that can't be helped are going to stop any improvements made upstream, no matter how big and/or smooth the intake improvements. It sucks, pun intended.

Wow what are you talking about?? Thinking of it as a funnel and a straw does not pertain to what is going?? Every intake has turns, the turns does not stop the air it "TURNS" it, like any intake system, also the 2 extra 1-1/8" air tubes are added air not the ONLY air! It can't slow what's already there down,,

What I am talking about is fluid dynamics, sorry it got a bit technical. I thought the laymen's term explanation was enough. Basically, more inlets and/or bigger intake tubing won't solve anything if those bends are still there. Don't argue with me, take it up with physics.

Not arguing, just saying that every intake system has bends in it, that does not make them ineffective!! Your saying that it doesn't matter how much air is going if it has to turn, taking bends out of an intake system is impossible, show me an inlet system that does not have them!! YES you try to make as few as possible but your going to have them, I have 2 90's to get to the throttle body, there is no way to get there with any set up because its coming out the back, Can you not agree or are you to smart to understand laymen simplicity??

With your theory nothing will work! intakes, exhaust, air conditioning, fluid flow, they all have bends in them but they still work! You don't need to know fluid dynamics and physics to be able to figure that out, you are a real over thinker.

should've just bought the y-splitter for the V8 and fit it to the airbox. it's the most efficient way without changing the airbox to the v8's.

No its not because the stock air boxes still only have a 2 inch out let on the back of them, This gets much more than that would!!

take your air boxes off and measure the outlet, I have the 2-2 inch and the 2-1 inch air supplying the throttle body..

i have the v8 airbox.

the 2inch outlet from the 32 airbox is the not the point of restriction. the point of restriction to the 32 airbox is the T-splitter bottle neck which restrict airflow into a narrow entry. the 2 2inch + 2 1inch inlet does not = more airflow when it's still hitting the T bottle neck.

but hey, it's your car...feel free to do whatever you want.

Your Y would be the first restriction after eliminating it your 2nd restriction would be the outlets on the back of the plenum air boxes.

Ok I stayed quiet but I have to say it because I'm sure many others are thinking it. That looks like ghetto crap. Adding two straws through your front grill area and zip tying plastic vaccuum cleaner hose looks terrible in your engine bay as well as probably doesn't do anything for performance. That is not the Mercedes look either. EC will probably look at you funny and laugh internally but still charge you for something, well knowing that you're one of "those guys".

Did you completely bypass the filters? That's not smart.

Take it off, close it up. Use the tried and true, Mercedes look, method, and parts, suggested by FrankW.

+1. I'm all for innovation but this is not innovation. It's just different. And looks like a sump pump. Most likely it create more turbulence than is desired.

Why would you think I would bypass the filters?? that would be retarded, that's the whole purpose of the set up to use what you have!! and if its not enough just how much more do you need??
The stock C32 back tubes are about 2 inch in diameter, using them and adding 1-1/8 inch diameter on each side is close to a 50% increase!!,
And it looks a lot better than all that BIG,BULKY, 3"AFTERMARKET, Pieced together, under the hood...the 2 extra tubes somewhat blends with the stock intake tubes, and as far as that goes this is just what I came up with and may change the tubes to solid tubes, then it will look like water lines or something, coming inspection time no one will no the difference

Lenin, How is it going to create Turbulence, it seams with a little air coming through the middle of the Y it would help direct the air coming through the sides towards the center of the throttle body,( that's what the stock baffle does that's on the Y) have you took the back off a stock Y? Anyways as far as Turbulence goes what would it matter to have turbulence before a SUPERCHARGER! A SC just needs available air to grab, so just cramming as much air to it is all it needs, any little bit of so called turbulence doesn't mean squat after its processed through the SC!

I'm not a C32 owner so maybe someone can educate me on the air filters, but aren't the filters between arrows 2 and 3? If so, you bypassed the filters.

Anyways, The seat on my *** feels a difference (unless its just placebo), When I get my dyno done I'll plug up my so called 2 straws (that equals 40%-45% of stock) and run a couple then unplug them and run a couple to find out for sure, if it doesn't make a difference no harm done all I have to do is put the back Y plate back on, nothing got butchered.
