Resale value..a good positive post i think...
Who else thinks the resale value on the c32 has or will hit a plateau? I have seen all my past 40K$ cars take a huge hit in its first year or two, however the resale value then stabilizes.
So we have a 60K c32 2002 model with under 20k miles. Many have been selling in the low 20's, I would bet money that in one years time, even with a c55 on the market, these c32;s ( now with 30k miles) will still command a high 30 or low 40k price.
I hope this is the case with the c32, because I have learned my lesson in the past with my BMWs and Audis where I always bailed on them when I panic'd about the resale values. For example, I lost over 10k on my 528i back in 2001, and over 12k on an S4. In hindsight, both of those cars, with even more miles, were selling at the same price I sold mine at more than a year later.
Upshot: Im hanging onto this C32 for a while, while not perfect, its been DAMN fun so far. If you want the latest and greatest, youll pay for it in the a$$

c32 is about what? $52k? right now...a 2002 is worth $40k... don't think it's gonna plateau anytime soon. a 96 c36 worth $52k is now worth $20k with only 23k miles

Hold on to your C32!
The bottom line is, these cars were meant for people to enjoy and hold on to for a while. Sports cars in general will take a tremendous hit in resale value if you don't hold onto them for more than a couple years. I really can't understand why anyone wouldn't do some research before they throw down $55k+ on any car. It only makes good business sense to find out if you are going to truly it before you purchase something of this caliber.

none taken....but just the fact that the c36 was a limited production car (not to mention the first official collaboration between amg and mb)... yeah...the c32 is one heck of a car...better in most aspects actually in terms of numbers... but ur gonna have to wait for a while for a plateau... cars as an investment in general don't hold value well....

benz is the best
well... benz has the highest resale value on the second hand market... it because their durability and reliabilty.
i experienced both bmw and audi... it drops 30% the second day you drive them. and they don't worth a buck after 80000 miles, simpily the maintence cost of these cars can be more expensive than the car itselves.
land rover and jaguar are even worst... they are terrible!

'02 CLK 55 cabrio (sold), '03 C32 (sold), '04 R32 (sold), '04 911/X-51 (keeper)
my lowball experience...
As some of you might see on the 208/209 AMG thread, I'm contemplating the purchase of an '04 911, and the P dealer is offering me $40k for my '02 CLK 55 cabriolet. This is a car that MSRP's at $82k, that I paid $78k for. I've been lead to believe by others on this board that the car should wholesale in the mid $50s (it has 26k miles), but even if I can get it sold at that point, that is some fairly serious depreciation in a year and a half, in part inflicted on my by the arrival of the 209 CLK 55s. I might do as they suggest and Ebay the car, or I might pass on the Porsche. I've owned three 911 Porsches prior to the 55 cab and my C32, and I just enjoy driving them.

Hang onto the cab till you find the right buyer. These cars dont sell overnight unless you find the buyer that wants your exact car. It can happen. If you arent in a financial hole, hang onto the car, it wont drop much in the next year anyways.
