a car that can't do the throttle reset.
Awiner...is that supposed to read ow40...or is it 10w40? does that go for a c36 as well? thanks

0W40 ... That is what AMG is using these days for the 2002 and newer AMG's.

Mobil 1 SuperSyn motor oil is especially designed for small high performing engines. It gives great protection during start-up and excessive engine heat. Fuel economy is increased, low oil consumption, and less metal to metal contact is achieved. Mobil 1 0W-40 is the factory fill for all AMG vehicles. Certified to Mercedes-Benz strict 229.3 standard.

While I think it would be ok for a C36, I would consult your dealer to see what they use and what the spec is first.

0w-40 is the best IMHO. Its not specifically recommened in lots of Euro cars being sold in the states because it was and still is somewhat difficult to locate. Of course I have been buying the oil from MB dealers for the last 4 years. Its HIGHLY recommened on Fi cars like the 1.8t engine, and the 2.7T audi engines which get engine/oil temps extremely high. Wont use anything less on this C32 engine.

Mercedes Benz
15W 50

In a warmer climate with an aggressive driving style, AMG recommends the 15W-50 weight.

I know my dealership does not put 0W-40 in their AMG powered customer vehicles. I have used tri-syn 15W-50 in my C36, S55 (2001), C32, and I will use it in my soon t arrive E55k as well.

I never abuse my motor when it is cold so in the unlikely event the garage in my house gets down to 40 degrees on a cold morning I should be ok. But I do live in Southern California and 40 degrees is considered very cool.

Mercedes Benz
cheaper at an auto supply store....

99e36M3 --

buy it on your own for the dealership tends to charge between 6.95 - 7.95 per qt. Your local parts store will charge about 4.35 for the same oil from what I remember.

Just tell the service writer to use the oil you leave in your trunk. I normally do this for my cars.

P.S. I love the E36 and the M3 is one of the few BMW's I plan to purchase one day. How does it stack up with your new MB? I keep borrowing a friends E36 race car (325is with many upgrades to the chassis and motor -- M3 bottom end etc) an I love that car more and more each time I get the keys.

thanks CynCarvinC32 -

as compared to the e36 m3, the c32 is not as good handling nor braking. by handling i mean the m3 had a better general steering feel, connected-ness to the road, sharpness of turning, and confidence-inspiring characteristics. the m3 just felt so much better handling. braking too, greater initial bite. steering effort is way different. the E36 chassis was simply awesome, that 325 must be fun - e46 m3 doesn't even compare handling wise (breaking its great!), i've ridden in several back to back. btw, the M3 had stock suspension, but 235/255 Potenza S03's and 18" AC-Schnitzer Type III rims.

engine - m3 had better throttle response, and because mine was manual, was easy to control revs better. great low-end torque, but lacked on the top-end. silky smooth too. c32 of course is much more powerful engine, but has more lag IMO.

m3 is more of a sports-car with some luxury, c32 is more of a luxury-car with sporting elements. this is very evident after owning the C32 for even just a month.

m3 has a better name, and therefore got much more stares. plus, my UUC system U exhaust was one LOUD motha****a and the car was much more flashy with AC-Schnitzer Type III rims. in fact, the C32 goes un-noticed until they see the AMG badge. c32 interior is much better, leather is nicer, yet the M3 had the "VADER" seats, which were AWESOME - only thing is they crackled at the bolsters if you weren't careful, unlike the AMG. exterior wise, the m3 is more agressive. c32 looks more like your "black benz" (both cars were black/black). btw, my C32 is bone stock for now...

some will want the m3 - its so "motorsports" spirit. racing is in mind, and it makes you want to race. they will be bored with the c32, despite its power. others don't need that super-handling or track-abilities. they just want a cool, laid back, fast, original, rare Benz. personal preference.

overall m3 was definitely more fun. but c32 is more laid back, luxurious, and practical (m3 wasn't unpractical, just c32 is 4-door, big trunk, you know). i would have loved to have an e36 M3 again, in fact i was going to get another one, but they're just too slow straightline, mods were not worth it, and now all M3's in my area are seriously dime a dozen - everybody has one. Part of my rationale for getting the C32 was to get something different. think of it this way, i didn't want to lose to a bpu maxima if i blew a shift, or at best, be neck and neck with a bone-stock Z. both are great cars, i just wanted a change to the easy-powered Benz, something different from the norm (at least here), but not every aspect of the Benz is better than the M3, to put it that way. hope that covers most of it.

do you have a C32 now? cause the M3's power will be considered a "downgrade" if you switch for one. m3's are awesome project cars IMO, i plan to have one again in the future as an all-motor, track car. i have a killer setup planned already. you can pm me if you need any more info on it, and good luck with your decision. again, thanks for the info bout the oil.

I have been using Mobil 1 5w-30 mixed with Mobil 0-20 half and half in my C43. Recently I ahve been using Castrol 0-30, the German made stuff. Very good and its even approved for MB.
