My first Benz! C32
Hi guys, Names Matt.
I have just taken delivery of my first benz a c32 2002 model.
I have been looking over this forum for months before I brought one.
Very impressed so far!
Only Problem is I seem to have the air con clicking noise for about 30 seconds apon start up!!!
Plans are only to do a massive detail at this stage and fix up a few things.
The wheels have a hell of a lot of gutter rash so I might find a new set of amg wheels i like.
I havent seen many of these getting around in Australia especially where I am from. Far north Queensland.
Can anyone tell me a part number or best place to get the missing mercedes badge on the engine cover?

Hello.
The clicking noise is caused by a broken stepper motor linkage behind the dash for one of the air conditioning flaps. Cheap part, pain in the *** to replace. Requires dismantle of the interior.
The missing Mercedes badge is part of the engine cover, so you can't just get the badge. You have to replace the whole cover. Someone broke it off.
Welcome to the C32 forum, what's the mileage of your C32? And if you don't mind how much did you pay for it?
Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the reply mate!
It has 110,000km on the clock.
Paid $17,500 aud for it including all on road costs and 6 months rego.
I have been reading about the clicking noise and not sure if it is worth the effort to repair.
I might have to thinking of a custom emblem for the engine cover then

Congrats on the purchase!
I have enjoyed m y 02! Its a blast to drive.
Personally I would recommend fixing the step motor linkage. Mine did the same thing when I bought it and it wasnt too bad. It still blew air through the vents and on to the windshield for defrost/defog. However it got progressively worse and now the air pretty much just blows very weakly onto the windshield. Which is crappy when its hot/cold outside.
Hope you enjoy your new ride!!

Welcome to the forum! You will enjoy the car. Low miles for a 12 year old car too.
My engine cover badge was gone so I ended up taking a wheel center cap and using some high temperature rated adhesive to set it in there. It's not quite a perfect fit, it's slightly smaller but it looks a lot better than a big a$$ hole there.

mattyshea, your sun roof is probably just contaminated with dirt and debris in the rails. open the sunroof fully and clean out all the gunk and apply the lubricant paste from mercedes benz (called gleit paste). The normalization is not working probably because of the contamination. Once you clean out the sunroof, open it all the way and hold the switch for 10 seconds in the open position. Then close it all the way and hold the switch for another 10 seconds. This re-learns the normalization of the sunroof and then the one touch open and close should start working again. Same with the windows, if they dont go up and down with one touch of the button.. then open them fully.. hold the switch.. close fully and hold the switch it re-sets the system

I brought a eurocharged pulley 2nd hand from the states and it didnt come with any additional shims. I have the two original on there already but i think it will need two or 3 more as it catches on the clutch plate. You cant buy any spares in Australia for this so what could I use as an alternate? Cheers

I have read that people don't even put any shims on with a eurocharged pulley. Even with the two shims on my pulley has no gap between the black clutch and cant free spin independently.
Has anyone experienced this?
Can I just add more shims or washers?

Had this reply from eurocharged.
'You are perfectly fine. It all differs from car to car. There are some that don't need to add any. There are some that don’t need any. And there are some that need to add plenty more. So the situation you are in is perfectly fine. You did nothing wrong. All you need to do is buy a couple shims and add them. The gap should be big enough for a credit card to slide in part way. If the credit card can slide through without a problem, then you have too big of a gap.'
I have got a 2mm washer made up and will try fit it up for size tonight. I bet it will be too much now. Cant wait to get the thing on though!
