C55 - 1st to 2nd gear shift is very hard
Hi guys. I have a 2005 c55. The car is in a immaculate condition, but about 2 years ago the catalytic convertor got "choked" so i decided in my wisdom to fit a full stainless steel exhaust system. Aside from the engine management light which then obviously came on due to there being no more co2 sensor, the car started to shift very hard between 1st and 2nd gear when the car is cold, but as soon as it warms up, it seems to dissapear, or become unnoticeable.
I have replaced the torque convertor and refurbished the entire transmission but still no luck... It is very annoying! Could it perhaps be a issue with an egr valve and the air mass flow meter on the intake manifold? Does this car even have an egr valve?
Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated! I dont know what to do anymore.

Thanks for that thread, but i dont believe that is the problem, because when they refurbished the gearbox, they "apparently" replaced everything, including all the solenoid valves.... Its cost me a bucket load of moola
I will however take it back to them to make sure it was done.

Well The company is the Mercedes approved agent for Mercedes transmission boxes, thus I assume that they will do what they say they will, but I suppose in Africa anything is possible.

My C32 has exactly the same simptoms.
When cold - hard switch from 1 to 2. Once is at normal operating temperature everything is silky smooth.
If i clear the tranny adaptation is smooth at cold also. But after week of driving it's again with hard shifting at cold.
My car and tranny is 200k miles+ and i think this is the reason of the hard swithcing at cold.
Once is hot there is no issue so i don't think about it.

I have an 05 C55, 70,000 miles. Same issue, since purchasing 7 years ago (40,000 miles on the odometer). It's annoying, but hasn't led to any problems and extreme meticulous maintenance has not improved the issue. At some point, was going to take to a dealer. Just did additional research and newby here, had to register to see if anyone has figured out the cause. Looks like I'm 6 years late on the post.
