C55 is slower then C32

I have been reading various articles on some different sites about this new beast and sad to here that it is not faster then our current c32s. Mercedes posted the c32 0-60 at 4.9 and they are posting the c55 as 5.2, other sites i have looked at are all stating 5.2-5.4. I thought this thing was going to be a rocket, too bad. Looks like i am going to have to go for a slk55 instead.

C 32 AMG (203.065)
5.2 is the for the european 0.100 km/h rating..

5.4 is for the stationwagen.

Been like that for the C32 and remains the same for the C55

2002 c32
I don't believe anything manufacturers print..

on their propoganda/media. Back in 2000 when I purchased my first Mercedes, a 2k c230K Sport Sedan, MB had it slower than the more expensive 6 cyl c280. I drove 12+pairs of c230s & c280s back-to-back during the course of 6 months (at various temps & altitutudes) and the c230k imho would always be able to pull on the c280 (albeit the 6 was considerably smoother). Then why would MB classify the the c280 as faster ... because they wanted $6k more....

Since the 'quality' of fuel used in a car directly affects its performance, my guess is that you get 5.2 in a 'normal quality' gas and average temp and pressure.

yeah, interesting for the e55 they said 0 to 60 in 4.5 when C&D did it in 4.2 secs.

well....in Europe and Taiwan.... both the C32 and the E46 M3 are claimed to go 0-100km/h in 5.2secs.... the USA is the only country where they claim 4.8 for M3 and 4.9 for C32...so MB claiming 5.2 for C55 doesnt really mean its slower....

i still think the C55 will be faster.... both off the line AND from a roll.

But you guys have missed one thing....0-100km/h IS NOT the same as 0-60m/h.

0-100km/h is around 0-62.1371192MPH... in this case 5.2

So theoretically (never accurate since acceleration is none linear):

(5.2 x 60)/62.1371192=5.02 seconds.

Give or take a few tenths.

I guess that a sub 5 sec time is as easily attainable.

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
The C55 is faster.

based in ///AMG data the C32 does 0-1000m (1km) on 24.3 sg. and the C55 does in 24 even...:o who really cares of 0-60 or 0-100km.......on the other hand the SLK55 does in 23.8 and the CL55 does 23.4 sg.

ah by the way this photo ROCKs

I wonder how he felt after handing over the C55 keys and going back to his VW Polo.

Off the line, the C32 may be quicker, but after 60mph, the 5.5 L V8 will dominate.

If you compare the below Torque band for both cars, you'll see that the C55 is always higher at any given RPM. Doesn't that equate to faster acceleration?

common folks, the C55 is most likely going to be quicker than the C32, maybe not in 0-60 but im sure the 0-100 will be quicker. Fact of life, cars get faster and you cant compare one test number with another unless they are done at the same time with same skilled drivers. Too many variables

KW v. horsepower

How do you convert the KW into an HP?

agree, c55 will be faster. most variables to c55 are better.
maybe 0-60 will be 0.x slower due to weight, but after 0-100 km/h the c55 will be faster.

if the brakes are same, c32 might win in tight tracks...
if it's nuerburgring, the c55 win for sure...
and now the 55 engine use the vtec thing benz first use.

anyone know will they put the new 7 speed gearbox in the C55?
coz they will use 7 speed or 6 speed manual on the new SLK.
i'm sure the midrange and top end will be faster than our 5 speed

From what I read in articles, it will be the 5-speed AMG Shift programming, same as the other AMG's...except tuned for the increased torque. Didn't read anything about possibility of the 7G tranny in the C55.

The new 7 speed autobox, while a nice piece,

would not be of any help with a torque curve that's actually more like a plateau. The extra shifting would only add a wee bit to acceleration times.A vehicle loses speed while changing gears.
In addition, the new 7-speed gearbox is physically no bigger than the "old" 5-speed unit.More parts in the same volume means smaller parts.Smaller parts are more fragile....
C32's would be just as quick with a 4-speed auto.

Nothing
KW VS HP

KW = HP X 0.75
HP = KW / 0.75
