2004 C32 AMG
New Purchase: 04 C32 AMG
Hello fellow C32 owners. I just wanted to drop by and say I have been bitten buy the AMG bug. I purchased a 2004 C32 AMG (Black w/ Charchol) on Saturday and will be going to the dealership to finalize the sale today.
My 03 CLK 320 is bye-bye within 1 year. Not enough power @ 215hp. I have a CLK 500 Cab. on order, but who knows how long that will be before I get it in.
Anyway, I will post some pics once I get the deal done. I have to say, I am very impressed in the looks & power of the car. It still has the "sleeper-type" power with great curves.
For the money, I couldn't have asked for a better Benz! I have already started the "poser" mods. Window tint on Wednesday, sport grill, chrome headlight & taillight rings, new city & fog lights.
What other mods (performance & otherwise) do you all recommend? I am not sure on what I plan on doing with the wheels -- keep the 17's or up to 18's. I had 18" Brabus Monoblock V's (chrome) on my CLK, but I think I want to stick w/ AMG on this car.
Thanks & let me know if you have suggestions!

For performance, I would recommend upgrading the suspension by installing coilovers. Doing so will also lower the car a bit and the car will feel better going through tight turns. You may also want to consider upgraded sway bars, but getting coilovers should come first.
Unless you need clearance for a BBK, or want bigger wheels for looks, I'd stay with 17-inch wheels as larger wheels would only diminish acceleration and braking. If you want to upgrade wheels, try getting the lightest 17-inch wheels which will stand up to your daily commute.
I'd recommend driving the car for a month to get used to the power before considering upgrades to power. One thing about this car is that you have to anticipate other drivers cutting you off because they simply can't imagine you going past them when they check to see if they can turn into your lane. Your probably used to that in the Viper, but since the C32 doesn't look fast, I suspect the problem is less pronounced with the Viper.

Thanks for the comments...
I will start the modding ASAP w/ the coilovers. Yeah, I suspect people don't really "know" about this car -- performance side. Most people think "Oh, it's a C-Class"...then I fly by and guess what?!? C32 baby!
What a fun car to drive!

I agree with cschow's advice to stick with 17s. Big wheels look nice, but they really suck to the ponies. If you want to switch out the AMGs, I would make my goal "light." The stock wheels weight 26-27 lbs. I just ordered some 17" "cheapies" which weigh 18 lbs. each, but it remains to be seen if they will actually fit the front (this is the problem with the C32 and aftermarket wheels. . . you have to clear the big calipers in front, but you have minimal shock tower clearance on the inside, so it is really a fine line).
As far as power upgrades go, reprogram the ECU and add a larger pulley for the supercharger. These mods will get you 40+ hp with basically no downside (other than the cost of the upgrades). There have also been some recent posts about DYI SL55 intake mods, which will get you another 10 hps for $500 or so. Roughly, you will spend $2,500.00 (plus labor) to add a true 50 hps to your C32. Sounds like alot, but it is the difference between looking at a door or rear 1/4 panel of the 360 Spyder (with your C32 mods) or looking at the bumper fading into the distance (without).

Vomit,
Where do you suggest I purchase these mods from? I saw ReNNtech & Evosport is an option -- any place else? I thought I saw the ECU & Pulley for $3500 or something -- is that not correct?
Thanks in advance...
Edit-My insurance also went down $300 every 6 months by going from a 215hp 2-door 6 cylinder Coupe to a 349hp 4-door SuperchargedSedan...
LIFE IS GOOD!

i would suggest EVOSPORT for their engine mods. i have their stage II powerkit. which consist of: pulley, intake, chip, headers, plugwires. and i have my own custom exhaust which my car is pushing @ around 370 rwhp.

yea... but... EVOSPORT offers the best dollar/HP ratio out of all the tuners out there. so... do expect for tax, but the least tax from evosport.

Welcome to the C32 family...and sweet Viper.
like Jerry/Silvac32 said, the evosport pkg probably is indeed the best bang for the bucks engine mod. I think the Renntech are a lot more expensive.
as far as rims goes, I would get 18's like the style-IV if you want to keep it AMG. The weight's not that much different from the 17 and after the coilover you wouldn't even notice the difference other than harsh ride.

I went ahead and bought 18" HRE 547's and the H&R Springs to lower the car a bit. I decided against the coilover kit because I'm not out to track the car nor hit any really harsh roads. I'm all about the "POSER" mods!

Thanks in advance and also for the comments on my Viper...

I will probably go Evosport for my mods -- what does an upgrade on pulley, computer, and intake go for? I saw ReNNtech was quite a bit more expensive...

It took a few searches to find these links, since the search engine likes to have a minumum number of characters and the syntax varies for the headings.
Here are the R&D postings, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 from EVOsport, which covers the elements of Stage I & II , plus more.
