R&D Update #5

Here is the latest. Previous two updates are linked below.

R&D #3

R&D #4

Engine:

We are in the process of finalizing ODPS pulley design. Production has already started. ODPS will be available in mid December. Expect 20-25HP and 20-25 ft.lbs. of TQ at the wheels and more consistent car in warmer weather. (Please see dyno in R&D #4 post). Pricing will be finalized within a week.

We are evaluating several software upgrades from a number of different suppliers. As soon they make power as promised we will make upgrade available.

Y-splitter at the throttle body is the main restriction on factory air box. SL55/E55 splitter will fit. However, new hoses need to be fabricated as SL55/E55 hoses are different. We are in the process of making some. On my C32 I was able to make connection with some generic hoses, but it is not pretty.

I have some ideas for intake manifold that will add some TQ in a mid-range. Prototype will be tested shortly.

We've just completed headers for V8 engine. C32 is next. Seeing how small factory exhaust manifolds are, they are the same as C240 through E230, we can expect some decent gains (15-20HP). Headers will be CARB approved and will bolt on directly to factory H-pipe.

We have two different cam profiles coming from Germany. One is mild (+20 degrees) one is wild (+35 degrees). I will of course post the results.

Between components above IMHO we should get around 350-360HP at the wheels. Next step will require head porting, as exhaust port is fairly small and restrictive. A 3.7L upgrade is also a possibility, as MB switches over to new 3.7L engines.

SUSPENSION:

I have a new H&R coil-over kit (***) on my car. Love it. My old setup with just C320 H&R springs and stock AMG shocks worked well, until shocks started to wear out. Car ran OK on the track, but was jumpy and nervous on the street. *** when combined with our sway bar kit is solid and composed. I am constantly backing off gas pedal, as I find myself cruising at 100 +. There is also camber kit just released by H&R that I am going to add next week.

I am thinking of adding a front strut tower brace, although it will likely be more cosmetic, as W203 body is pretty stiff.

BRAKES:

Stock 13.6’’ brakes will handle quite a bit on the street. On the track, after about 5-6 laps they start to go away. Undoubtedly, a set of better pads will help. None are available, unless you go with custom made Portefields. Brembo is in the process of developing 14’’ front kit and 13’’ rear kit. Front kit will possibly use 8-piston caliper. I am taking my car in to Brembo for R&D by the end of the month.

BTW, we tried adapting SL55 8-piston caliper. Not enough room. It would of been nice from performance and appearance standpoint.

Do you have any specific data on what the gains are if you change the Y-splitter? Similarly, do you have any data on gains for the colder plugs.

I'm looking for isolated impact, i.e, a dyno with your ODP and stock plugs vs ODP and cold plugs. Same with the Y-splitter.

SteveL: Colder plugs did not add any power. We used them to make sure that there were no misfires at higher boost levels.

SL55 splitter is worth about 3-5HP through out RPM range. The biggest difference is in "crispyness" of throttle response. I will look for the dyno graph.

Vadim,

Does Evosport sell the Eibach Camber Kit? Do you have pricing?

P.S. Ben has my money for the ODPS, don't forget to call me when available

amgme: Yes, the ODPS will come with hoses and connectors to convert windshield washer into extra reserviour. As far as filters, ITG we tested in the past lost power, K&N still has not made them and BMC has to be ordered from Europe. Like I said in previous posts, we have not seen HP increase from removing stock filters from the air boxes. Rear splitter is where restriction lies. Even then it is only 3-5HP.

Zeppelin: We use H&R kit, which is basically the same as Eibach. I should have ODPS by December 14th. Come to Fontana I will be there.

Good job Vadim.
Do you think that the ODPS kit may be compatible with my mods (H&S ECU and BMC)?
Thanks,
Bye

Can you be specific on which plugs you used?

A dyno graph would be great. Will you sell the hoses seperately? I assume that you would just order the SL55 splitter from MB parts or will you provide it as a kit including the splitter?

Pierre: At this time I would say - Yes, you should be able to use ODPS with your current setup. My hunch is that H&S software and Renntech software come from the same source.

Steve: The plugs are NGK, one step colder. I do not have a part number in front of me, but any shop that sells NGKs can look them up for you.

Zeppelin: Yes, I will be in for drags at Fontana on 14th

Charlie: Expect my call very soon.

Bverotti: Mechanically all C32s are the same. I do not see a reason why we can not sell you an ODPS kit.

Give me couple of days to finalize things and I will e-mail you a quote, including shipping. Thanks.

Bit of an OT question.

Will the header fit the C320?

Any plans for performance upgrades to the C320?

Theoretically - Yes. The header should fit C320. We have one in the shop for Kleemann Kompressor install. I will check and confirm.

As far as C320 upgrades. We have Underdrive Pulleys set that add 15HP in th first, 9HP in the second and 7HP in the 3rd. Cold Air intake, cams and software are in planning stages. Check in early next year.

Thanks.

I'm going to go out on a limb say say no, because the C32 is six cylinders and the C43 eight. They might have another product already though...

Nice Job Vadim,

Are you still the only shop addressing the higher temps as you increase pressure issue? Your IC improvements had some GREAT gains.
Are the other pulley manufacturers still missing that issue, or have some of the others finally come around to follow?
Anyway, can you see us sitting here trying to be patient like kids knowing Christmas is near?

Cheers everyone,
More power to the people!

Rich: I think BRABUS has now added an additional IC coolant pump. I have not seen how it is wired in.

The prototype "sixtopuss" is about ready. You will understand when you see the pics from under the hood. I got to go and pick it up from fabricators.

Two remaining pulleys to complete ODPS are at the platers. They are promising next week. You will definitely have it before Christmas:-)
