New AMG?

I saw an S500 AMG last night. Is it me, or is that wrong? I don't claim to know everything about AMGs, but is there such a thing as this? No V8 Kompressor badges, no other AMG indications--just the ///AMG badge in its place on the rear passenger side. I would think that if one could afford $100,000+ to buy the S500, then why not spend the extra $15-20K for the S55 if an AMG is what one wants? Or, if one has the S500 and wants to fool people into thinking it's an AMG, why just add the ///AMG? Go all the way and spend another $15 for the S55 badge too!

I also saw a 400E AMG at the carwash. The 400E badge was nice, big, thick lettering, while the ///AMG badge was about half the size and thickness. My freshly cleaned C32 was right behind his while he was waiting for his car. I would have offered a "performance comparison", but his was dried first and he was gone.

Thumbs down

not again... there are many many threads relating to the topic of AMG badging, who deserves to put what on which model car, which models came with amg badging, etc... the bottom line, IMHO is that putting an AMG badge on a non-amg merc. is lame, but I'm sure doing it will fool most people who don't know anything about cars, who most likely won't even notice anyway, and if they do notice won't even care or know the difference. You will also look like a complete fool to people who do know the difference because they know you're faking it

anyway, everyone has the right to do whatever the hell they want to their cars so that's just my observation. I hope this doesn't turn into another badging debate : - )

i used to think it was taboo to put the AMG badge on a not AMG car but now since ive seen nearly every other benz in HK with an AMG badge its the norm for me.. funniest part is some cars here dont even have anything AMG yet they still put the badge on...sometimes on the wrong side!!

Tezta... i saw a red c230 kompressor that had no AMG upgrades... the left said AMG and the right said kompressor... so i asked the guy "what model" he had and he said it was "an AMG C"...so i said "what motor is in it?" he said "the supercharged..." so i said "oh! its a c32 amg"...he said "YES"!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!! than of course i called him out on the non amg parts that were obvious of a non c32...i.e. kit, wheels, exhaust.

I don't mean to start another debate.......just thought it was strange seeing one on an S500. The others I've seen/heard of are usually other models.

isn't it similar to what BMW does when they use M parts on non M cars and they just put the badges on the cars? Kinda like the old 3 series when they used the M skirts/spoilers for their sport package. Some of the cars had an M badge on the right side of the trunk lid. I'm not saying I totally agree with it.
