What do you have done to your exhaust?

The previous owner of my c55 removed the resonator and I have to say the car sounds fuken proper when warmed up. Kinda loud for just having that done. He said he had it done at some race shop so not sure exactly what they did. The receipt shows close to $300 from what I remember.

My friend said it sounds like a hot rod. Of course followed with "whats under the hood" question coz he had no clue.

If only I could get rid of the whining sound that almost all c55s have.

I'll try to get some videos at some point, in the mean time feel free to share your setup, pics, and sound clips...

I had my resonator and secondary cats removed, great sound and tolerable drone at highway speeds. The whining at idle is your power steering pump and normal.

Other than sound, what does removing the resonator and secondary cats do for the car? Any MPG gains? I have a C55 I just bought about a month ago and am trying to learn all I can.

Thanks in advance.

Doubtful it does anything but add an old school muscle car sound to a Benz. That's all I've ever noticed. MPGs actually suffer due to the sound forcing the go-pedal to the floor.

I have headers, no primary’s, no secondaries, and no resonator. Sounds pretty mean.

It's actually the engine oil pump. Both the E55 and C55 have dual pickups, front and rear, that's the reason for the dual oil pan bolts. The whining noise is made by the gear mechanism for the dual oil pickups. Both the E55 and the C55 have this design. The S55 has a single oil pickup and does not have a whining noise at startup.

Once I find a decent exhaust shop in Portland my plan is to eliminate the resonator and the secondary cats, insert an X pipe and run true duals to the mufflers. Seems to be good for about 320-330rwhp with tune. Down the line I plan on getting some Eurocharged shorty headers and high flow primary cats. Reason I want to do this in stages is to keep the volume under control and revert if there's too much drone.

Gutted my muffler strategically, not just randomly hacking away at the engineering that went into it. But **** that one can was way more work then when I gutted my old w211 e55 ones. It's off now though bc I'm replacing piping w 3in stainless I got left over from my track whip...so debating if should put modded muffler back on as well. Or go dual tips too

I've been running my C55 with the resonator and secondaries removed for about four years and have always planned to go with an X-pipe and true duals. Let me know what you find when you add this, im curious if the sound changes, etc... Always wanted to say it has true duals

I plan on some exhaust mods but I want to keep the factory tips. The car needs to be quiet inside while cruising but sound like a proper V8 when stoked.

C55 AMG T with Kleemann K2 and some stuff: 414 hp and 576Nm :-)
feets, that´s what I have: Kleemann headers without primaries and stock all the way back inclusive secondaries. Tune on that of course.

Mean rumble at startup and after that almost like stock at idle. Startups turn heads.

Highway cruising no extra drone.

But when you push it, it roars nice! That´s the way AMG should have done from factory in my opinion.

Inside the cabin the difference isn´t too big but it´s there. You have to be outside to hear the big difference stock/tuned, now the V8 really
rumbles when pushing it just a tad, cruising round town. "-No doubt that´s a V8 in that car!!"

I took it off and set it in storage

Made a new one.
Longtube headers with merge collectors followed by 100cell cats.
Then complete new all the way.
Routed it into a single 3" pipe all the way from behind gearbox to reardiff.
Then split it into dual 2.5"

One 3" silencer
And two 2.5" silencers.

Sounding like a v8 should sound like.
No blurbing like two fourcylinders that only fires on three..

Rgds
