Any fit and finish problem on C55

I recently hard -wired a smart cord for my passport 8500 radar detector. And I found a lot of mismatching panels underneath steering wheel and glove box. Some place has almost 1/2inch gap so you can see insulation pad through it. This is my first MB and wondering it is because C-class or mine is the only one came like that. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to be nit picky. I love this beast a lot, just makes me to go somewhere. I also installed a flat hood emblem and aluminum door pins. I'll post some pic soon.

I am getting my C55 coming week. It is kind of good and bad to know this problem. My 01' E320 is a German made as I mentioned perfect perfect machine. The C55 is made in Africa, will this be different quality control than those models made in Germany?

On my window sticker it said it is made in Germany. I also asked salesman if C55 has anything to do with Chrysler. He said hell "NO".

I saw my C55 contract with the authorised dealer , it says made is South Africa. I cannot be 100% sure about where America gets their C class from; I only thought that all C are made in SA, and all E and S are made in Germany.
I also think that AMG factory is also in SA.
Any experts here can explain to us ?

All right hand drive C Class saloons are made in South Africa.

I think US gets them from Germany only.

Where did you take the power from?

Hey I have a C55 and i removed the panel underneath the steering wheel there was insulation under the plastic cover which was help up by only 4 screws in the front (kind of cheap I thought). Well anyways my question is where did you take the power for the radar detector from? I tried to get to the cigarette lighter but I couldn’t remove the center panel console where the gear stick is (the middle part with the silver trim). On the old C class they said lift it up from the front left side and continue down. I tried but couldn’t get it out and was scared I was going to break it so I had no access to the cigarette lighter and didn’t know where else I could take the power from. Can you please tell me where you took the power from thanks!

I see tks

Is your coming C55 color code 744 ? Same as mine , hope I can get it by end this week

Guess we should have a reliability check in time to see if Germany made or SA made are better

I am getting mine in the next few days too... I can't wait

Hopefully we won't face any reliability issues.

all AMGs are last assembled in Germany. Right hand drive or no right hand drive. However I don't know if the donor car for the righthand drive came from South Africa or not.

and there's only one AMG factory in GERMANY.

AMG only builds the engines since 2000 or 2001...

Any special requests from customers such as AMG Manufaktur options are sent AFTER production to AMG for fitting.

Right hand drive C-Class AMG's are built in South Africa, the AMG bits (engine, suspension etc) are imported from AMG in Germany. A friend of mine visited the MB factory in East Londen (SA) a while back, and he saw how they built the C32's there.

Frank, it is clearly written on my C55 order contract , it is made in SA.
The salesman told me there is a AMG factory in SA.

What he probably meant was that they build C-class AMG's in South Africa, but I can guarantee you, there is no such factory here. If there was, I would definately have visited it myself.

hmm...i see. thanks for the info. I thought it's the body that would be shipped back to Germany for final assemble not the the other way around.

but that kinda sucks doesn't it same car yet you get it from SA and we get ours from Germany headquarter.

It doesn't make sense to ship back the car to German and re-ship them back out to other right-side drive countries.

Those right-side drive C-classes will have:
81% content from Germany 19% content from others
Final assembly:South Africa

I kind of agree that they ship the AMG engine and some parts to SA and assemble. I can still check with my dealer about on the contract : Made: South Africa - whether that means 'made' or shipped from".

Tototisa 's C55 is made in Germany. I am getting mine made in SA. Presume your's is also made in Germany. So let's compare them.
And then, as I could not find any obvious finishing problems from my E 320 (W210) , I would just say the devil is the 'weaker' quality control process applying to the lowest end of MB. I trust nothing we should challenge the MB quality as even a lowest end C class is still much more expensive than possibly 95% cars in the world.
