Unexpected New C55

Well...I stopped by my dealership yesterday to see what was going, and lo and behold, there sitting in the lot is an Alabaster White 2005 C55 AMG...

I had been planning on taking delivery of a C55 in January of next year, and I was contemplating "downgrading" to a pre-owned E500 (bigger car, cheaper price), and I wanted to test-drive a couple of the pre-owned E500s that they had in stock to help in my decision. As soon as I walk in, my sales guy tells me that there are a couple of C55s there and asks me if I would like a test drive. Of course my answer is YES! So, he pulls her up to the service drive and my decision was pretty much already made. Man, that V8 sounds great! So we go on a little joy ride and I just couldn't get over how different the car sounds as compared to the C32. The interior was black with the black wood grain, other options included the lighting package, premium package and NAV. I can't say the driving experience was dramatically different from the C32, but I couldn't help thinking that this is what the C32 should have been...little differences you know...18" rims, a USEFUL tachometer, a cool flip down screen for the NAV CD and single CD, awesome V8 sound. Anyways, after driving the C55, I test drove a 2003 E500 (on special for $51,600), but all was for naught. I knew what I wanted. So we go in and crunch some numbers, it was sketchy for a while (apparently my C32 had a ridiculously high residual value when i bought it), but somehow they made the numbers bearable for me and I will be picking up the C55 tomorrow! Two months early at that! Woohoo!

Amen Brother on that brilliantly German engineered placement for satellite antenna.
You have 2 other options.1- Completely hidden under the trunk lid. Looks perfect. Works about 75% as well as mounted outside. or 2- Rooftop adjacent to the existing antenna. It's fairly small and though not ideal probably the best choice.
And Congrats on your new car! Alabaster was my 2nd fav color

Congrats on your new ride!!!! I hear you on that Sirius Sat. I asked my salesman why they couldn't just integrate it with the regular ant. that's on top of the rear windshield, but he didn't know why. I think the way they install them looks horrible, i would have gotten Sirius if it wasn't for that.

Congrats man.. its good to hear that you chose the C55 over the E500 - my wife and I were in that same dilemma until we test drove a C55. It was all over after that. I have to agree with you on the differences between the C55 and C32. I think the C32 is a great car, but I like the longer nose look of the C55, the cool navi, the upgraded interior, the 18's and the quad exhaust.

After the HELL called finance dept., the keys for the rocket are in my pocket. Wow...what a ride! I will take it easy for a while, then zoom-zoom!

The COMAND seems improved, but since I used it about 3.5 times in 3 years of C32 ownership, i won't concern myself too much about whether or not it is actually better.

TORQUE TORQUE TORQUE!!! I haven't floored it yet, but I sure can feel the increase in torque as compared to the C32. Can't wait until it's broken in!

My sales rep tells me that they will have a new Sirius antenna by December or so...we'll see...if they do in fact come out with one that is visually acceptable, I will have to get it, obviously. They say that Howard Stern will be moving to Sirius after his current contract is up...but it has been so long since I have listened to him regularly, I don't know whether he is still worth listening to or not. I can (almost) remember when a morning was not a morning until I had my dose of Howie (circa 1988-1995). And now I'm dating myself...

Anyways...I will try to take some pics soon!

Congrats on your new c55, and you are right that V8 does sound incredible, sometimes I just put the windows down and the turn off the radio then listen to her purr.
Lets see thouse pics, I was very interested in white but there where none in stock and it took way to long for another one to arrive.

I tried doing a search for it but can't find anything and I can't remember which forum I saw it in, but this guy had the Sirius antenna installed under the rear view mirror casing and it was completely unnoticeable! It looked great and got perfect reception. I think I saw it in either the E55 or CLK55 forum and there were pics of it.

The problem with the Sirius system that MBZ puts out is the antenna lead- its the old two wire version and all the small antennas are single wired. Terk makes an adapter which goes from two to one wire and a super small antenna. I couldn't install mine under the deck lid because I have tinted windows and the reception was killed. So I got the adapter and got the smaller antenna.

Oh congrats on the C55- I test drove it a month ago and love the ride/power. I have an M3 that had 23k perfect miles. I got a recall letter that they needed to fix the connecting rod so I brought in and 150 miles later the engine blew. I am getting a new engine with zero miles on the clock and then its sold. Maybe a C55 since I got a dealer selling it to me for a few hundred over invoice.

Anyways here are the pics on my E55:

H O T, love white. If you get a chance I'd love to see a better pic of the birdseye, that was my first pic and I like to see what I missed. Congrats. I don't what all this break-in nonsense is. Heat cycle it a few times in the first 100 miles and then punch it.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback!

I also got the fixed read sunblinds for the rear windows...what a pain in the *** to install! We'll see how long that they last. They don't seem too durable.

That's my daughter by the way...yeah...everyone thinks she's a boy right now, haha.

I will try to take some better pics of the Birdseye...gotta wait for a sunny day!

Hey C55AMG '05!

Like the white C55! Looks great and what a cute kid you got!

I was observing the pic of the back end of the car and noticed that your left side muffler has the same discoloration as mine. Do you or anyone else know if this can be treated as mine from the rear looks kinda bad. Not really bad but if someone was behind me in their car, I think they could notice it. Maybe I'm being a little picky (lol).?

Thanks,
Nick

Vic55: So you bought the antenna and adapter separately? Where? And the dealer was willing to use outsourced parts? Or did you do it yourself? Your solution looks great by the way.

First of all that white looks even better than I thought. Great choice in color and not too common.

I actually have been using the same radio install guy for years and he got the receiver from the dealer for cost and used his wholesaler to get the Terk antenna and adapter. He did the install at his shop and I trust him since he has worked on my W210 E55, M5, and M3. If you have a reputable stereo installer in the area where you live, which I am sure you do, its almost a better bet to go with them than the dealer.
