Its not a good idea to do the powdercoat on top of the stock finish. If you're to do it, get down to bare metal and do it.

The center caps are plastic (if you have the 3 pointed star caps).

A good shop should do a great job with it - they should be able to put on nice coats fo clear over it. I think it would look great!

I am not a fan of stock wheels being altered in any sort of way. But maybe it can look ok, what color is your car?

Car is brilliant silver.

I don't plan on leaving the C55 stock, (thinking Kleemann SC) I want it to look like the factory modified it, so I want a bit of subtleness in the look, hence the stock wheels but with a bit darker gray hue.

I have a 2000 Ford Lightning in silver with the stock wheels done in a very dark gray and it makes the vehicle look rather sinister.

Did you ever get your wheels powder coated? If so, can you post pics?

Thanks!

I knew I ran across that picture somewhere on these forums. I had it in a folder of unique wheel finishes that I compiled while trying to decide on buying bright silver/gunmetel/or black OZ Ultraleggera wheels. I ended up going with the bright silver.

I want to do this to my CLK55 wheels as well. I was looking for the gunmetal amg color code but I had no luck. There was a guy on ebay a while back that claimed to have it...

There was also a powdercoated set for sale. I saved a picture for reference.

There is no paint code for the AMG centers - I tried. Jaguar Gunmetal Blue is the color I found. It's very close the AMG color.

The picture above? Yes, very close. The Jag color is darker and has a metalflake to it. In direct sun it's amazing, but when dirty, it just looks gray.

You would have to strip the wheels down to bare metal first. Very labor intensive and $$$. Center caps are plastic. Have you considered paint instead? Might be cheaper and look just as nice.
