get an ODBII scanner and see what error codes come up, that will tell you exactly why you got the check engine light. also some people say that you can go to autozone and they will scan you car for free.

Scanner
Yep, get the scanner and then we can point you in right direction, first of all....check the gas cap. Here's the one I have and it has already paid for itself.

Check engine light
You still need to scan it, mine ran ok but it needed a MAF (mass air flow sensor) it ran like a scalded monkey after I changed it....just for 411

hahaha scalded monkey.. yup scan it or take it to autozone if there is one in your area. one of my story about CEL was that i had a bad o2 sensor but the car still ran pretty good, only sign was it started to get bad gas mileage - other that, you would know that the car had a bad o2 sensor until you scan your car. i just changed my o2 last week, and it runs even better now, i just clocked 312 miles on a full tank with still little to spare. i never let my tank go till the light comes on. so take our advice and scan it, you never know what could be wrong. we are all here to help.
