C43 leaking oil.. likely spot?

Seems to be in the front towards the top of the motor. At least I can see oil on the ac lines dripping down. I recently had the HB recall done... could that be an issue? 85k and the leak is pretty bad. I cant see anything from the top. Any idea where the culprit is or where i might start looking? Doesnt seem to be a valve cover. Thanks

Have you removed the air cleaner/air filter housing yet to verify location? Give us more info....

Can do. I just didnt want to start ripping stuff off if there was no way I wanted to tackle the job I might find. I was kinda hoping some would say, "oh ya the kunooter valve goes bad and it cost $5 to fix" I guess I'll get the tools out and try to pin it down. Thanks

For starters..you don't really need any tools to simply remove the air cleaner housing. But get 'er done and we're here to help...as best we can!

I just got this email I thought I'd pass on. I'll verify it tomorrow.

The only leaks that we see on the M112/113 engines is at a small cover on the front cover near the oil filter housing.

hey keynote,
most likely your oil leak is from the oil cooler that mates to the oil filter housing. there are two o-rings between these two parts and they get hard and crack over time. the oil will leak from the back so from the front its not too apparent and most people miss this and think that the leak is coming from else where such as the power steering pump lower in the engine. the o-rings are somewhat expensive like $15-25 for one. take a real good look behind the cooler and see if you see any signs of oil. my bet is that your oil is leaking form there. if your really mechanically inclined, you can probably do this fix yourself, but it is very time consuming. good luck

I thought I had the common oil cooler leak, I cleaned the area below the oil cooler, replaced the 2 oil cooler seals, fired her up and realized the oil was coming from the plate/ cover below the oil cooler. Does anyone know what this plate is called? Better yet does anyone have a source for that replacement seal?

Wow old thread, I posted a DIY on here with a ton of pics and everything. If anyone plans on tackling it themselves...I'm sure the thread is deep within the powers of the search though.

sgort2,

I think I got a similar oil leak. My mechanic says it's the oil filter housing. What he means is probably either the oil cooler o rings or the plate/cover you are talking about. Did you ever find the part number and fix the leak? Is it hard to do or do I have to pay him $200.00 to fix it.

oil leaks from the front can be the oil presser port ( thay have a updated cover and seal), oil filter houseing seal, and oil cooler, all the parts are about $30. it will be safe to do all the seals thay get old and the heat from the engine does not help. it is easy to do will take about 1 1/2 hr
