Has anyone got any experience with getting more power/better efficiency out of a C36? I am considering putting a free-flow end box on the exhaust and a K&N air filter and was wondering about the consequences. Will I need to take to a rolling road to get re-programmed or will it be OK as is?

Stay away from the K&N's...they seem to cause MAF issues, search on this forum....it has been extensively covered. If you use any permanent filter, go with the green filters www.greenfilterusa.com I had MAF issues, and I did not want to have addt'l problems with it, since I found one on ebay for $200, I just stuck with OEM...the gains in HP are minimal.

The AMG exhaust is already as free flowing as you can get. All you're likely to accomplish is a reduction in power and an increase in noise. I replaced the cats on my C36 with high flow aftermarket ones. The performance suffered greatly until I pitched them in the garbage where they belong. The AMG exhaust is a quality, accurately engineered piece of equipment. If any aftermarket ****** who builds the same exact exhaust for a myriad of vehicles tells you the stock AMG system can be improved upon, ask for proof. You likely won't get any.

Here's the thing with K&N Filters (I did my research on their site, on the phone with them, and on these forums). The issue with the MAF only occurs when after they (the filters) are washed and re-oiled (people tend to apply a great excess of oil which ends up damaging the MAF Sensors). Look, 2 filters cost $100 shipped. After 50,000 miles, don't play around trying to reuse them, just purchase another set and avoid the excess oil problem completely. Recently put them in and they work fine. Aside from that, I purchased an aftermarket exhaust for my car. A part worth looking into would be the Powerchips Upgrade, posted on it a while ago. Here's the link.

Another site with ECU Modifications is:

These are simple modifiactions which will free some decent power. Worth a look.
Good Luck!

The only problems with the K&N filters and the MAF's going bad is not caused because of the filter. If you buy a new filter and pop it in, you'll be fine. The MAF only goes bad when you recharge/clean your filter and apply too much oil. If you over oil your filter, it will clog up the MAF and it will cause it to go bad. K&N filters are great, just know what you're doing if you plan to clean and re-oil it.
