Oil Question

About 3 months ago, after i bought my C43, I took it to the stealer for oil change. Service guy told me to push the (0) button on left side couple times of the gauges to find out when is the next oil change..... I have a feeling I am overdue, and it bothers me. I wanted your opinion if that service guy's advice is correct, because after I hit that button twice it tells me I still got 4100 miles left for oil change!

Another question, do I absolutely have to have 0-40 Mobil 1 or, can I use something till I find 0-40?

Last question; I bought Oil Extractor with Staplegun's advice, I already have the filter. Do you guys use the extractor too? Is it as good as unplugging the bottom?

I hope I was as clear as I wanted to be..

Thank you guys in advance for your input!

I would recommend using it simply b/c it's proven, and it's gonna protect your engine better than most conventional and sythentic oils.

You can find Mobil 1 0w-40 at Advanced Auto Parts, Walmart. I would say Walmart might be slightly cheaper.

After speaking to several mechanics and researching Mobil 1 website, you can easily go 8000 - 12,000 miles with this synthenic oil, depending on your driving style, climate conditions. Alot of people swear by changing mobil 1 on a 3000 mile interval, but honestly that a waste of money.

All high-end european cars are factory equipped to use Mobil One Synthenic thus you have the service A and service B intervals at about 12,000 -15,000. I think Mercedes Benz pushes the limit when they say up to 15,000, so, I personally have the oil changed at around 9000 miles on my cars.

Also, if you want to save money, buy a case of Mobil One from a store plus oil filter, take your car to an independant shop and have them do an oil change for you. Total cost for labor + materials should be around $75.00 max.

The oil extractors are great. Actually I think they are awesome. I changed my oil last week with a cold beer in one hand the entire time. Not kidding. Pull out the dipstick and shove the rod/tube all the way till it hits the oil pan bottom, unscrew the oil fill, loosen the oil filter cap, and pump a few times. 30 min later you are empty with a self contained clean bucket of oil. No mess. All done with one hand.

For the oil I would stick with mobil 1 0W-40 for many reasons. 7.9 qts to fill.

I reset the service reminder myself. For every 10,000 miles I change my oil 2 to 3 times. Basically 3000-5000 miles. I would do the same. Why risk it?? So simple to be sure your protected by a simple oil change.

Crawling under a low car is also a PITA especially when they are dropped

Do a search for FSS reset I believe. That should give you the play by play on reseting the reminder. I'm at work and I forget.

THe filter is right up front with a black cap mated to what looks like an oil cooler. Front right of engine. Its plastic so I suggest getting the right oil filter wrench to fit it. You'll probalby have to test fit a few at the auto store as I did. $3 to $8 for something like this.

Do a search here for "Oil change" and you should find a couple links with pictures showing each step.
