Exclamation Front Brake Pads

I'll be posting a very detailed job regarding the front brakes here soon, I have my new cryogenically treated rotors ready to mount and am currently debating which front pad set to go with, my rear pads are fine - they only have 23K on them.

My previous front pad set were Padgid and they were so, so....

What pads have you guys used, I'm leaning toward Axxis or the Akebonos, they seem to be of good quality. Your input would be greatly appreciated...

Rotors

I purchased stock AMG rotors from www.rimier.com with the frozen rotor treatment from frozenrotors.com - it was $618 shipped.

Frozenrotors charges about the same, dunno what their shipping costs are. If you talk to Richard and tell him about this post he'll match it, you'll get higher shipping if you buy online, talk to him...supernice guy.

Not cheap but they're supposed to last 3X's as long, we'll see....

I bought some EBC green pads when I first got the car. They have seen maybe 10K?? They seem to dust a little less and don't make a noise. I mean honestly I don't do 70-0mph stomps on the pedal so I really don't know how to gauge their performance. Hope this helps. The other EBC pads I have read stop better but also eat the rotors quickers.

I used EBC greens on my old Maxima and had great results. They didn't tear up my cross-drilled and slotted rotors and lasted decent.

Thanks for the input guys - I went with the EBC greens. Once I get them along with and the sensors, I'll post a nice detailed job with plenty of pics.

I'm on Pagids and they're eh....

I hear Porterfield makes very high quality high performance applications.

Porterfields are supposed to be top of the line, not real sure how they are since I've never used...my good buddy is looking to put them on his 1995 540 BMW. I hesitated to get because my impression is that is might be a pad more geared to track use versus street use. I pamper the 'mighty whitey' so she doesn't need track pads.

I'm looking for something that will be rotor-friendly, so we'll see how these EBC pads turn out. Hopefully with the cryo treatment I'll get a couple cycles worth of pads.

No doubt bro - at the price of the pads versus the rotors I'd work my way up the ladder on the pad side. A little dust or the inability to perform a nose stand is a trivial problem compared to a new set of rotors.
Really intrigued by the cyro treatment though - at the cost of the stock rotors this could be a great adjunct. Keep us posted!

I tend to disagree with this statement.I'd rather replace a set of $700.00 rotors than dislodge the front end of my car from a tree or someone's trunk because of using a inferior brake pad that may cause harm to my rotors.

I'd be willing to bet that even with the stock pads you still run the risk of stopping well before the idiot behind you than you do of being unable to avoid a tree

I'm sure the EBC Greens will meet or exceed OEM specs of the Jurids, my car is NOT a track vehicle. For those on the fence, if you get slotted, x-drilled, or ANY variation thereof...turning them is pretty much precluded for you right out of the chute. So if you have an overly aggressive, how should I state this... driving style, track pad, or whatever...you'll eat up both the rotor and the pads. I dunno about you guys, I don't have money to toss away.

I've owned and tracked enough cars and even motorcycles and performed their respective brake jobs to say that 'some' can get overzealous with their cars/vehicles and their let their zeal overcome common sense. These AMG vehicles actually have a pretty damn good OEM set up, the centers are semi-floating and aluminum and the calipers are pretty beefy. I'm anticipating good results with the cryo treatment. This is just my two cents, do what you wish....it is a free country, although if Billary gets in, it might not be for long...

Interesting statement. The one thing I won't hesitate to spend money on is brakes. It's amazing how people won't bat a eyelash about putting thousands of dollars out for rims, sound systems, other interior and exterior mods but will not invest a extra $60.00-$100.00 for pads that could possibly make the difference between being in a accident or avoiding one. When I was at Nurburgring in August I spoke with Bernrd Maylander after our safety car lap and I asked him , "If you were going to invest money in a car, what would you do first?" His response "brakes and suspension".

Remember the most important items involving your safety ARE brakes AND tires.
