Don't have a Mercedes right now...
I don't think it has it unless the previous owner replaced it with an aftermarket one. None of the newer models have it either, MB uses ESP to emulate the effect of the LSD by applying the brakes. I think that the first time it is offered as an option is with the new E63 AMG. There are a lot of people that installed quife LSD in their C32s but I don't know if quife offers one for the C36. You may want to search at the C32/C55 threads and ask the people that installed it in their C32's to tell you more info.

Quaiffe or kleeman are the only options I know of available for the C36 .

The SL65 was the only MB available with LSD stck to US buyers. It may be available worldwide as an option or standard on the newer E63 now.

I think the later W211 E55's that had the 030 option came with an LSD.

If you search the E55 63 portion of the forum you'll see what's listed in the 030 option. And it sure aint LSD!

Here's a CLS55 w/ the 030 option and it has an LSD. I assumed that if the CLS had it as an option than the E must have too.

see the post 15 & 18.

imo i don't think it needs a lsd, if it had something like 330hp or so then yes you'd be at the border of needing it but at stock hp i doubt it's needed

You can get the 030 package with LSD now but it was not available in the 030 package for the E55(2k3 to 2k5) until recently now that the E63 has come out. Plus it's considered an accessory option from what I understand and costs over 10k! Who the heck wants to spend 10k? READ below!

Thumbs up

Just found out my 95 C36 has LSD. When taking the car out in the snow, ice the wheels were alternating spinning left and right.

simple test.. find an open space with nobody around, put a lot of sand/gravel/water under one rear wheel, the other rear wheel on pavement. if neither spins on acceleration, u have lsd. if the one in the sand spins uselessly, it's an open differential.

Obvious you don't know about LSD! My 350Z has LSD and it does the same thing. Well when I used to take it out in bad weather. Also my bros 04 GTO has LSD and does the same thing.

Trust me your car does not have LSD! Launch it and see for your self! And if you want to you can bring it out to Captree and we could prove it! how would they have LSD on your C36 and not on my C43 Not happening.

By the way Ask your bro to bring the GTO as well!

I'm trying to picture it! If he goes in the snow which we have plenty of here right now,and one wheel spins helplessly while the other one does'nt that means he has an open diff.

My 350Z Touring has LSD. Only the base model Z doesnt have it. From driving both the Z and the c36 in the snow the wheels alternate left and right. No use arguing with you

My wife drove a C36 before her C55. I had an S55 before my current S65. None of them had LSD. I remember being disappointed when we got the C36 (new in 1996) because her previous car, a 190E 2.3-16, came with LSD standard. That car, the "Mercedes-Cosworth," was in some ways the proto-AMG, in that it proved there was a market for tuned MBs. It struck me as a step backwards that the C36 didn't have limited-slip. It still strikes me as ridiculous that you couldn't get one on a C55, much less an S65. We'll see about the C63. It's not a good sign that the 030 Performance Package for the S63 does not include a limited-slip differential.

The only factory AMG to have one standard is the SL65, but with the LSD that chassis has bigger traction problems than the S65 without one. It is part of the 030 package for the SL55, CLS55, CLS63 and E63. It is not included in the 030 package for the SLK55, S63 or CL63.

also depends the percentage slip. the post i put above should only be true when u don't go wot/full throttle or the slip isn't too bad. if u truly wanted zero slip in all conditions when one wheel clearly cannot find grip, then u need a 100% transfer from the lsd. iirc, the e46 m3 had that.
