Symptoms of a MAS issue?

Hi all,

Recently I have encountered an intermittent fault on my C43. It becomes very hesitant, which lumpy which the car has never been.

Initially I was concerned that it may have been the onset of the dreaded tranny issue, however having had the oil changed very recently and all being 100% perfect I am ruling that issue out for now.

The only way I can describe it is a severe lack of power across the entire power range, sometimes it is coupled with what sounds like a misfire on one of the banks or a very lumpy idle (which stops and starts periodically) and the vehicle feels like it is restricted by an engine limiter... runs up to around 60mph and feels like it tops out, although it still possesses vast amounts of torque and bar the periodical hesitancy and lumpiness runs perfect.

It starts 100% without coughing etc. all the fluids are spot on... I just wonder as its a fairly intermittent, albeit very tedious fault, does it sound like a possible Mass Air Flow meter issue or something like plugs etc?

Totally stumped on this as when it runs fine it is perfect and when this issue raises its head you cant help but think the car is on its last legs. Its that night and day in contrast.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

Nath

I bought it and it was a pretty easy install. Make sure you buy the screw driver bit that you need to take the screws out.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
The maf

would usually throw the p0170 and p0173 codes. No codes?Lack of power and a misfire involved might indicate a cat plugged up or failing.Clean the maf with crc brand maf cleaner per diy on benzworld.org w210 section see if that helps if not get the cats checked.Feel like the engine is choked up and no get up and go?Check those cats.
The insert can be removed with needle nose pliers on the collar of the screw and germanstar provides new conventional screws with the insert.Or if you need the security torx bits, schucks or autozone has a small set for 7 bucks.
Good luck

Ohlord, mine was feeling sluggish before it ever threw the code. I had just bought the car though, so I didn't have a standard of comparison.

its not a true misfire- it's electronic in nature (the way mine is and he described) seemingly as directed by the ecu

Hi Eric,

Do you happen to know if the product you linked to would fit a UK right hand drive car? I cant see MB changing anything like this from RH to LH drive models but I would obviously like to be sure.

Best wishes

Nath

Nath - that MAF insert is not going to be different whether it be for LHD model or UK RHD...
