The truth about tranny fluid change

Every post I have read has been different on the tranny fluid change. I can tell you it is almost as easy as changing the oil filter.

there were 6 t30 bolts holding the tranny pan on nothing in the way
5mm allen to take drain plug out
pan comes right off and clean it
the filter just pulls off and pushes on
you can reuse the rubber seal on the pan i put a new on on didnt use any sealers

torque converter
there is two holes one in front of the exhaust crossover pipe and one above it
the one in front of the pipe i used to turn motor with a screw driver until i seen the 5mm drain plug just above the crossover pipe

dip stick
you have to turn off the red tab on the cap where the dip stick goes then you have to take something to push the other part of the red tab down i used a nail. cap pulled off

i put four quarts in ran it a few minutes
i then used the dip stick i had to buy pushed it down until it stopped and checked it

i put a total of 7.5 quarts in it

i bet i could do one in 30 minutes or less now pretty easy

Did you

install a new filter?Did you drain the converter? And most importantly on the 722.6 trans did you use the mb spec fluid for the 722.6?

Ummm, I really hope you didn't use the nail to push the rest of the red tab down INTO the fill tube. All you need to do is take a screwdriver and break the top of the tab off then pull it off THEN poke out the remaining plastic with the nail or whatever. Hope there isn't plastic in your tranny pan floatin around.

when the cap is on the red lock is on the outside of the tube not the inside by pushing it down and out allows you to take the cap off,

Richee

you are in lynnwood and you did not come over to Mill Creek for the spark Plug tutorial I had this past weekend?Raymond came up with his custom E320 and John and Jon had their E320 and C320 with custom drops and piles of new plugs to install.Next we are doing a polish and wax session with Menzerna products, hope you can make it.It was great to meet these members.

I bet the C43 transmission holds more than 15+ quarts. Thats the problem with transmission fluid changes, you end up changing less than half the fluid by doing a simple drain and fill.

This is what a transmission 'flush' is all about. It circulates a large volume of fresh transmission fluid through the system while its running and if done by a competent person, will replace every drop of transmission fluid.

I would drop the pan and change the filter and gasket, drain the TQ if possible. Then I would fill the system and drive for a few miles; follow this up with several fluid evacuations through the dipstick tube with an oil change pump thing that people love these days.

OR

Get your indipendent shop to do a $200 dollar flush with mbz fluid.

yeah thats been discussed. alot of people contiually do this drain fill thing until it dilutes the old tranny fluid to the point where its pretty much new. i would def recommend the use of a pump to pull all the fluid out so that new fluid can go in without having to be mixed with old fluid.

actualy the manual says it holds 8 quarts, your not doing yourself any good sticking a hose down to pump the fluid out when there is a drain plug,

Okay, if it's only 8 total quarts, then this is a non-issue. I just assumed it was double that, I've had other cars that hold a ton of fluid.

On an 8 quart system, I would be content to drain 7.5 and fill it back up.
Sorry to question your methods based on my assumptions

pre 2000

722.6 trans had a drain for the torque converter, after 99 all you can drain is the pan and that only gets out about 4.5 qts. on the earlier ones you could drain the tc and get out several more.special dipstick and mb fluid only.
