Why does my BAS/ESP light up randomly?
What's the problem here, why does it come back on my cluster?
I never had this problem before this factory fitted breaklight switch broke.
Does anybody know?
The other possibility could also be the esp module which is prone to failure (also replaced on my 55)
good luck !
The indicators are voltage sensitive and a weak battery can have similar symptoms.

That will ususally reset the system, most of the time. However, I have the light remain on after this and I had to then turn off the motor and restart which would then remove the lights.

If that clears his problem great
If not an intermittent set of warnings like that is not going to be triggered by the turning the steering wheel left to right and back.It only loses it's settings when the battery is dead or unhooked.
OP are your brakes all good?(plenty of pad?)
Try going to a coin car wash or if you have a low power pressure washer and power wash the whole brake area rotors all sides, calipers, down at the pads.
Not full force but stronger then a hose nozzle.
Then roll it onto a bunch of newspaper under each wheel and spray some brake cleaner onto the brake area(avoid painted calipers.
Let air dry for 1/2 hour and then go slowly for a ride applying the brakes gently to remove any water that may have not evaporated.Dirt and brake dust sometimes foul the sensors and cause your on again off again problems.
Worth a try before you do the brake booster since that is a rare cause for your problem.

just that no need to wait several hours,if a reset is going to work you can do it in a few minutes the above method and that way if it does not work in his case he can use the extra hours saved trying to locate the problem.

My pads are not worn so they can be ruled out.
My bas/esp light doesn't come on all the time it comes on maybe once in a week or once in 2 weeks, this is not often happening.
I had my battery charged recently so it's full with juice.
But I havent locked my steering column from left to right to exclude the warning light, so I have to try this procedure.
Thanks for your help.
I was reading the post about the BAS/ESP light, thanks for all the info.
I have a 2001 SLK 320 with this light coming on randomly.
We've already checked the alternator, and battery, and we've tried turning the wheel back and forth and light still comes back on.
We're leaning towards the faulty brake light switch, but we were wondering if you had any more advice. Thanks in advance for all you help.

Tried a battery reset by disconnecting the negative lead per the above thread? You do the steering wheel angle sensor reset after the battery reset.
Checked the brake light sockets for corrosion or loose fittings?
What voltage was your alternator putting out?
Change the brake switch,mb part only not aftermarket.
btw it's not a Mb part it's a aftermarket part so i guess it's why i had some truble with it.
just to add one more data point to this common problem.
My BAS/ESP light was going on and off periodically, maybe only 1-2 times per week at first, then it was coming on every time i drove the car. It turned out to be the Brake Light switch. once that was replaced no more lights.
my car had about 88,000 miles when this happened. the light had come on very randomly and then go away for the last 5,000 miles probably, but not long enough to cause any worry.
