C43 AMG Brake/Rotors/Discs

Hi everyone,

I am now definitely in need of some front discs and will be ordering these http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/Ros...scs_Detail.cfm

I have decided to go for a full set at £239 for the front (316mm)

and £259 for the rear but the listing shows the rears to be 278mm but I have measured the rears on mine and they seem to be 290mm which is a C36 size?

have I made a mistake or is their listing wrong? My car is a C43 1998?

any help would be much appreciated.

The size of the break discs for C43 is 334 (front) and 300 (rear).
As far as I know, there is no other disc avaiable except the original one.

I am using the R129 discs (SL 55/60 AMG). The size is the same, but the offset is different. You need to adapt...

Hi I say OEM ( AMG / BREMBO ) front , yes they don't come cheap
but when looking at them you understand why, Unique L and R hand
aluminum center and really positive ventilating fan design . They are
also relatively light for it's dimention .

Also if you go the OEM way there is no need to rebuild the front at all ,
just new discs and pads , remember they were E55 equipment and sure
enough capable to stop our C43's Roger
( picture show also 300mm rear discs )

I can't agree with the weight. The Textar disc I am using is without the Aluminium center and the weight is more or less the same (difference is less than 5%). So there isn't realy an advantage...

@C43AMG
Do you have detailed information about these 'Italia's discs'?

Thanks for confirming that the R129 is the closest.

The disc company at the start of my thread after a couple of weeks of trial and error...... ...................................has finally told me they can not supply the fronts for a C43 (credit to them as they really did try)

These guys say that they expect to have fronts in by July http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

I will try to brake less for the moment, although I have never had a disc crack on me.

I wrote some detailed information concerning the R129 breake discs in W202 forum, but it is in German language:

http://www.c-klasse-forum.de/wbb3/in...&threadID=9279

For front discs I used an alluminim disc with 1,5mm. Rear discs fits without modification, You only need some more space for tires, because offset will be reduced.

Bye,
Stephan

Am I reading those prices right? They are listed ast $475 for the front pair? I'm almost ready to order immediately. Usually we are looking at $800 just for the fronts.

Just rolled over 100K a while ago and I'm sure the rotors are on their last legs.

If they are that cheap now , I may just pick-up a set and have them sent out to be cryogenically treated.

How are you liking them? Are they going to hold up for several years? I'm worried about the drilled on such expensive rotors. I may just go for slotted.

They've held up fine. This is going to sound **** (on some things I am uber ****),but once in the spring and once in the fall, I jack the car up and clean the holes out with a phillips screwdriver and my air compressor. It allows me to check for any cracks (none so far ) and you would be amazed at the deposits that come out of the rotors. It also allows me to torque the wheels to spec.

I would like to warm up this thread again...

Does someone know the manufacturer of the Italia Discs?
I would like to order some but I am not sure if the are confirm with the German Tüv. Obviously Italia Disc is not manufacturer but importer of European and especially Italian Brake parts. But I wonder why those parts are not available on the European market.

@C43AMG
Do you have any certification with your Italias? I wonder why the rotors on your photo are slottet but Italia disc is drilled or drilled&slotted only?

Are there any other news available concerning C43 rotors/pads?

Bye & happy new year,
Stephan

I recently replaced the rear rotors and pads myself. I bought some Zimmerman Rotors with pagid pads and works great! Didnt cost much either and was a piece of cake to install. I think total I spent less than $300. This is for my 99 C43.

I know its an old thread but I never got round to posting final pictures after doing the research to obtain a full set.

fronts are from a C230k sport package straight out of the box from any outlet. (not sided)

rears are from an r129 SL (cross drilled option).

Been on the car for 5000k, great brakes

the sports package bakes are 330mm and drilled, so they are not 100% identical.

Don't consider yourself being "uber ****", coz that was my standard practice at the end of each race week-end with my Porsches (drill bit and compressed air). Amazing the amount of dust which accumulates, but wear a face mask to avoid breathing a whole lot of non recommended substances
