Transmission died after 107k miiles. Wondering if anyone had any new insights on repair and replacing ie: new places to get parts etc..

Also. Does anyone have some suggestions on rental car companies in San Diego. I've already researched "Dirt Cheap Car Rentals" and some of the basics... Just wondering if anyone had 'hook ups' with one nearby.

Thanks!

Len

Sorry to hear about your trans. Sun Valley will ship you a rebuilt one (exchange) for about $3K. It comes with a two year warranty and a torque converter. Don't let the fact that they also have a dismantling business sway you. They've been rebuilding MB transmissions forever and are well known in the LA area.

If you want another shop, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine uses Transmeister for work. If Transmeister is good enough for Mercedes-Benz, they can probably be trusted with a customer car.

Transmeister is at 836 West Agnus Avenue Orange, 92868. (714) 532 1871.

Thanks a lot! I'll give both of those places a call tomorrow and we'll see what happens. I've also been in contact with a company from Arizona called 1Stop Transmissions. I found them on ebay and their prices and service seem to be pretty competitive. I like the warranty from Sun Valley though. Hmm.. I used to live 5 mins from there during University.

It's not so much the labor of the swap that i'm looking for.. it's more the locating of the parts for cheaper than $2500.

Been trading emails with Sun Valley and they seem like the way to go so far. They're fairly local so I can save on shipping and they give a 2 year warranty which is great.

Thanks for the tip!

Some shops will repair for $2500 including parts & labor if you can find one. Mercedes has also upgraded a lot of the internals on the 722.6 so make sure you get the upgraded parts which can handle more power than the previous versions. Most of the 03+ transmissions have these upgraded internals but the older 98-2002.

Good luck, hope that helps.
