what is this part?

what is this part sitting on top of the front?

I don't have it on my Euro car.
Is this part only for US cars?

What does it do?

Air injection pumps are used to pump fresh oxygen into different areas of the engine and exhaust to help burn off excess fuel and emmissions before exiting the tailpipe into the atmosphere. It doesn't add any performance, it arguably robs it as it is another draw on the engine.

So this is like a mumbo jumbo device, not being needed at all?
Is this part for entire North American market C43's or Californian smogged and clogged cars only?

With this part the emissions are much cleaner?

Euro spec cars are dirtier with emissions?

Then I should be happy not having it on my car!

All cars manufactured for the US are the same after 96, the feds required cars to be built to the strictest standard for all of the states which happened to be California. You should be glad you don't have it!

This may be another bonus - Kowalski, how many cats does your car have (cats as in catalytic converters)? Some have fewer than others.

hey bro.
my euro c43 have 2 front cats behind the engine!
they are small roundish like!
then after them I dunno if I have anymore cats?
There is a long straight tube a little wider in the center (vertical placed) underneath the car,
and the last tube with dubble end pipes seen under the bumper has a big box under the left side rear wheel arch!

does this mean I only have 2 small front cats?

I have only 2 front oxygensensors at front!
no rear oxygensensors

My set up is strictly OEM no mods!

this is gut rajt?

This is the stock exhaust on a Japanese spec CLK. It has a total of two catalytic converters. US spec W208's have four.

hey buddy.
I think my center vertical tube is a mono tube?
but I'm not shure?
it's wider than the others!
Is this the cat or a wide ******* muffler?

I see the jap CLK has the black poly bushings!

The two wide parts are catalytic converters. I think those bushings came from LPD auto in Duarte California (USA)

On my C43 the rear ports for oxygen sensors are plugged!
This must mean that I only have 2 front o2 sensors and 2 cats on the front tubes behind the engine?
Or is it 4 cats but only 2 oxy sensors?

I have found a picture of another AMG 202 converted to a C55!
This car has the same tubes as the Japanse CLK so I guess mine is the same!

In US you have 4pcs o2 sensors meaning 1 sensor for each cat?

there is the european AMG forum www.amg-owners-club.de
ther's lots of pictures of europ cars!

Not quite. There are two O2 sensors for each of the front converters – one in front, and one behind. The first oxygen sensor works exactly like yours. It looks at the oxygen content of your exhaust and uses that in closed loop mode (at idle and cruise) to make air:fuel adjustments. The reading from the second O2 sensor is used to determine the effectiveness of the converter. Specifically, it looks at the cerium content. I’ll put an article up at my website that explains cats and oxygen sensors in detail. It should be up some time over the weekend.

Then I'm happy having a less restricted C43 AMG vs the Us version!

I feel sorry that you have to put up with clogged cars because of government regulations!
Buying high flow cats will solve your performance problems?
Yes?
