Opinions Please...Spark plugs which ones?

OK going to change my plugs - figure 90K miles and 11 years probably time...haha...anyhow who recommends what and why? Please keep in mind I'm moving to So Cal from Washington state so I will be in warmer temps on a regular basis so anything to know about from a plug standpoint there as well? Thanks in advance!

In general, the temperatures in Southern California have nothing to do with which plugs to use (one exception possibly being if you move to Mohave and spend a lot of time at Willow Springs). Here's a short blurb on plugs.

After 11 years, I hope the plugs come out without any issues.

So at the end you say, stock plugs for a stock car. What do you consider stock? If someone has a dyno tune, no 2nd cat and res delete with k&n filters, is that stock? Even headers and pulley? Or do you mean FI and major mods to the engine?

I can imagine that those type of mods are aimed at optimizing the engine, even if you gain a little extra power. Major mods for me would be cams, SC or Turbo, increased compression, etc. Different (colder) plugs may then be necessary.

So iridium plugs aren't a good idea? Or does that matter at all?

Anyone here running Denso's? You can get these in the OEM temp range. I've heard great things about them but they are $$$

True, but they are $$$$$$$ Why not stick to OEM plugs. If AMG and MB recommend them, there must be a good reason, so why pay more?

I used the Denso

As in my post (second link) posted by Austin H - I used the Denso and am really happy with them, you're not going to go wrong with the Bosch, I might add.

Biggest caution (make your life simpler) MAKE SURE YOU GET EXTENSIONS THAT LOCK YOUR SOCKETS) - Sears has them

OE spec plugs, don't mess with anything else. Hi tech spark plugs are way high on the snake oil scale.

I just found out from the orig owner today, mine we all changed at 95k along with fuel filter. So I am skipping plugs until a later date and changing the fuel filter for sure. It has 30k miles on it!

Run an ohmmeter across all three and note if any are different than the others.

Unless the wires are obviously damaged just leave them. They rarely fail since they are just copper leads with resistor ends.

Do get 3 new coil boots tho and lots of dielectric grease.

can you try and remember what you put in?
because losing enough mpg to where you can notice it is not good

Spark Plugs

Don't ever change plugs on a warm or hot engine - you WILL screw up the threads in your cylinder heads. I don't torque my plugs, I snug down and go a half turn (maybe 3/4) and I also use a touch of anti-seize on the spark plug threads.

It is an easy DIY - I did a POST on here a while ago, you just have to take your time and don't yank on any of the high-tension leads. I would highly recommend you obtain ratchet extensions that lock your sockets.

I used Denso Iridiums - you will never go wrong with the OEM Bosch.

What got damaged with anti-seize?

Oh lord, I have never had any problems with it (anti-seize) and I've used on dozens of vehicles, motorcycles and boat engines - when you did have an issue, what happened when you state 'damaged' tell what the damage to the plugs or otherwise was specifically?

The only time I would advise against it use is for O2 sensor applications....
