Gas tank

So last night I was filling up my tank and when when it was full, the filler handle unclicked. But it had stopped at some random change (~$47.63), and I like to round my gas cost to full dollars (cuz I'm **** like that, lol). So I put some more in until I hit $48 exactly, but because the handle was so sensitive, I missed my mark by a few cents (~$48.04). AAARGH!! So I decided to round it up to the next dollar, but had to keep resetting the handle because it would automatically "unclick" (since the tank was obviously full).

So when I finally reached $49 even, I noticed a small puddle of gas underneath my right rear tire. I was like WTF? is that from my car?? As afraid as I was to start my car w/ a potential gas leak, I had to confirm if it was in fact from my car. So I pulled up a few feet, and sure enough, a new puddle started forming under the same area. I was running late to a meeting, so I took the massive risk of driving off to my nearby destination. Well, I parked my car, headed into my mtg, and when I returned about an hour later, there was no gas leak/puddle and there hasn't been as of this morning either. Could this simply have been excess gas somehow venting from the gas line somewhere? Cuz the gas didn't come up through the filler hole. Is there a separate overflow tube/hole somewhere in the gas line? I'm really hoping this is a just normal feature and that I have nothing to be alarmed about.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
It's the

overflow and worse than that the reason your owners manual states never top off the tank it can compromise the charcoal canister, cause cel issues, affect the smog system etc. fill till the click and leave it at that.

Don't you read backwards?
In the middle east they read from right to left.
You read from left to right in USA.

Shouldn't do that- overfilling the gas tank will overrun the charcoal canister (tank venting) and cause all kinds of problems.

So earlier I filled up my tank for the first time since the last time when I overfilled (due to my **** tendencies) causing a minor gas spillage underneath the car (from where I still don't know). However, this time I did not overfill, and stopped as soon as the gas-filler handle automatically clicked off. But even still, there was another gas leak underneath my right rear tire. WTF?!?!?

What could be causing this?? This has never happened before until the last tank I overfilled. Could I have torn a hole somewhere in the gas line?? Please help!!

u might have a cracked tank, most prolly the breather has cloged and the tank cracked as it was vaccuumeddd by the pump.

i have seen this happen on a w140.
jack the car and check the leak.
