I will not be installing the box until I get the new filters, I will clean up the inside and I am thinking about redoing the heat shielding on the bottom of the box while I am waiting for the new filters.

I will post pics of the inside of the Renntech box VS the inside of the stock box for comparison.
Nice. You will like them. I noticed a difference switching to the AFE's when compared to used k&n's.

I have a comparison of the filters on my one threads if you want to take a look at it.

https://mbworld.org/forums/clk55-amg...ed-review.html

Good luck. This is one of my favorite thread on MBworld.

Thanks for the tip I will be sure to post a review once I get everything installed. I have read of people installing the Kleemann headers but not feeling much right away and stating the ECU needed to adapt before it added power (not sure if this is true). Is there any adaptation that is required after you install the air box or is the power instant?

I just put it on and noticed a difference right away. definately get the car tuned after all your mods are on and it will unleash more power. also while your at it, get a new set of plugs and wires, about $400 but worth it(unless your currents are pretty new, then it a waste)

I installed new plugs and wires about 17,000 miles ago so I should be good

I noticed a difference right away with the renntech. Did give it about 10 miles to adapt just incase though.

I didn't give it much time to adapt after the header install....the gains were IMMEDIATELY noticeable

UPDATE:

Just received my AFE filters and OF COURSE, they are the wrong ones...

I ordered the ones that would fit the 4.2 M113 thinking they would fit but they don't

Guess I will be searching for the correct size filter, feel free to chime in if you know the part number.

EDIT:
I think I have figured out the part # (no thanks to AFE's crappy website). I believe the part # is 31-10084, I will call and confirm tomorrow.

I think they will work for a stock C43 air box but not for my Renntech CF air box.

Yes, they are too wide. I think I have located the right part # (31-10084) I am going to call and confirm tomorrow.

please let me know as soon as you find out...thanks! i think you maybe right because 31-10084 also fits 2001 e55, which uses the same renntech airbox. my renntech airbox came from a salvaged 2002 renntech e55.

I could not find a part number via AFE's website for w210 E55, or w208. If you have the part number for it. I am sure it will fit.

31-10189 AFE Pro Dry S - $115.95 shipped to your door in 3-4 days directly from AFE
Strange, you can still get 31-0085 via the website. When you say discontinue they are only discontinuing the ability to buy them separate correct?

ok, afe is a mess with our filters. they can't figure out what fits, even looking through the engineer catalog, the clk55, c43, and e55s all have lines through them with 31-10084 as the filter number and discontinued. they keep insisting the cl55 class will fit, 31-10085, but it will not. the airboxs are completely different.

85's are what i posted in my Renntech Box thread. I agree, I doubt they will fit your box.

LOL, I am going through the same thing with them. I don't like to talk ***** but you are right, AFE is clueless about what is the right filter for our cars. I talked to Steve and had him confirm the size of the 31-10084 and it is the one we want FOR SURE (compared the size to the K&N filter in the box currently).

They still don't believe me as they called me back and kept asking what size my motor was and other ridiculous questions.

Either way I told them I wanted the correct filters over nighted to me, they are trying to refuse but I am holding my ground. Over night the correct filters or refund me my money. Keep in mind I ordered AND paid for these things 11 days ago and they are coming from the state right below me.

LOL, they didn't have a problem selling us the wrong filter before!

They were going to sell it to me but then it turned out they only had 1 in stock and they had to make another one which was going to take 5 days. This is were the over nighting came into play. I told them cool, I'll pay ANOTHER $130 AND wait 6 more days I want you to pay to have them over nighted. They came back with the "split the difference" crap and now I am waiting for a phone call from someone at AFE who can tell me yes or no, what a joke!

Original our OEM filter comes only in "M113.940/944/980/984",, i think AFE may not have an "HWA 104" filter,, i didn’t hear they have or had them,,

pls. correct that if im wrong.....!!?

ZAYED,,

Yeah, after the guy at AFE wanted to argue with me that the filters are right it hit me, they probably think our cars have the normal 4.2 in it with the normal air box. I can only assume the C43 has a different air box than the other 4.2 motors which requires a different filter

They didn't want to pay for the over night shipping to ship me the correct filters so I told them I wanted my money back and would never be purchasing any of their products ever again.

All I can say is in my personal experience AFE is a mickey mouse operation and would not recommend them to anyone. This is solely based off of my experience with their website and their staff, the (incorrect) filters they shipped me do seem to be of high quality.

Sorry you guys had such trouble with AFE. I didn't have any troubles. Both the filters for my ML and CLK fit without a problem

Ordered one through tennesseespeedsport, and the other through amazon.
