C43 amg ticking sound???

I doubt there was any damage but you should switch to Mobile1 0-40W ASAP

Interesting as I have always been a Castrol fan until owning my C43 which made me turn to Mobil1
"...Some time ago, I was talking to a University pal of my son, who now works for Castrol. Part of his responsibility is analysing and carrying out wear characteristic tests on competitors products. Being a long time petrolhead and obviously interested in using the best products available for my cars, I was talking to him about this very subject, whilst fully expecting him to recommend Castrol products as being the best.
Interestingly, his considered opinion was that the best, widely available, synthetic oil to use is Mobil 1. He said it outperformed even their own 'Castrol Edge' product by a sufficient margin to persuade him that it is the only oil to use for those who care about their engines longevity. For obvious reasons, he doesn't usually state this opinion in public, but it's a good enough reason for me to always use Mobil 1.
So there you have it, pretty much straight from the horses mouth, as it were.
My own, perhaps rather cynical, view of dealers who recommend an alternative product for use in or on your car, is that they only do so because they receive a rather better discount for it than for others on offer..."

I only used Mobil1 in my '94 C280 with the m104 and I changed it every 20-25k miles. Sold it with 251k on the clock and engine was still tight as a drum. The ONLY thing on Earth that would ever happen to make me part with that car was the purchase of my long-time-dream machine C43.
My C43 is my current daily driver that gets alternated with a 1994 E320 that I practically forced my wife to buy as her daily driver. M104 and M113 are my all time favorite engines.
She wants to get a Kia Soul or Mini Cooper next. The E320 becomes my daily driver and the C43 gets parked for my *fingers crossed* 5.4l NA swap and Kleeman SC. Has this actually ever been done on a C43?
Also, after that swap, sourcing a 3.6l from a C36 to drop into the w124. Can't wait for either.

ZAYED,,

If I did that, I'd be changing my oil every 38 days.
FWIW, my whole family uses only Mobil1 in all our cars (MB's, Jeeps, Dodge gas and diesel trucks, Chryslers) and all get oil changes every 20-25k miles. Never had any engine issues out of any of them (except unrelated issues like a head gasket on an M104 when it overheated). If you can find someone who adheres to Mobil 1 and ever has any failures related to not changing oil often enough, be sure and take note for me

- You track/race your vehicle heavily and extensively, but I havn't heard any 43 owners doing that like you would for other cars. The 43 is not really designed for that kind of exercise
- Your vehicle is not used very often and clock's up little distance during a 12 month period
- Your wallet can afford the cost for frequent oil changes.
Both my wife and I work quite close to our home - about 7 minutes one way. Her's is basically all urban, I have a short blast on a section of freeway. Combined with occasionally very cold (-30*C) starts, I ditch the oil frequently, religiously so. That said, I only change the filter every other oil change though. If memory serves, my S2000's owners manual calls for the ~5,000km oil change interval for 'severe' conditions, so I stick with that.

Exact same here.

Indeed short distance use contaminates the oil quicker as it never really gets up to optimal temperature.

I have replaced the water pump, tensioner and crank pully as it was the recall one. the old tensioner and water pump bearings were very rough to turn by hand, replacing them made no difference to the ticking.
Speed of the tick is either valve train speed ie close to 1/4 rpm, or 1/2 RPM,I need to recheck this.
Any ideas?
I would have though with an exhaust leak it would change tone on deceleration?
Maybe chain tensioner?
Engine has done 57k miles.
Cheers
