Flasher/Turn Signal Relay?

Hi everyone. I've searched high and low for a definitive answer but have had no success. I've replaced my exterior bulbs with Led's and as expected I've encountered rapid flash with my turn signals. The burnt out light indicator is also present. I purchased the 5 prong relay for Led bulbs to eliminate these problems and I cannot pinpoint the correct relay to replace it with. I've tried replacing both 5 prong relays located under the black cover next to the fuse box but this does not eliminate the problems. Is the relay that I need to replace located under the black panel or is it located somewhere else? Is it the flasher relay or the turn signal (multipurpose relay) that needs replacing? All help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Sounds like the LED's aren't providing the proper resistance (this is what triggers the light bulb out indicator and what causes the fast blinking.)

Thanks for the reply. I should have been more specific as it is the Led's that are causing the problem. Instead of using resistors on the wiring I purchased an Led relay to replace the existing relay so as to eliminate these problems. I'm wanting to know where the 5 prong turn signal relay is located as I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere.

Cheers

I know on pre facelifts the relay for the indicator is right around by the headlights. I'd start there and trace some wires around and see if you can find anything

The turn signal relay is located behind the cluster in the dash. You can get a special one designed for LEDs for about $15 online (forget where---try DDM Tuning).

I don't recall if the LED turn signals cause a bulb out in addition to the fast flashing, but the LED signal relay will definitely eliminate the fast flashing.

Are you sure you have your brake/running lights all resistored-up properly? Bulb out can also be caused by headlights (check those bulbs....LED or not).

Thanks for the info. in regards to the location of the relay. I already purchased the Led relay but was trying to identify where it was located in a W202.

While looking up the thread I saw a year or so ago about it being in the dash behind the cluster (which by the way, I couldn't find this time around), I ran into this thread, which says it's under the hood. I've never replaced this relay, so I can't say for certain which is right.

Thank you for the heads up. I stumbled across that post a few weeks ago and it is a dead end. I replaced the two five prong relays that are located in the engine compartment behind the fuse box and neither of them disabled the turn signals. I even tried adding the Led relay to the 1 empty 5 prong slot with no success. I will call a dealer tomorrow and they can pinpoint the exact location of both the turn signals and hazard flashers relays. I will post the locations of both relays tomorrow so as to help others in the future.

Cheers

The MB dealer could not tell me where the specific flasher and turn signal relays are located. I'm assuming that it is the black rectangle relay but it is hard to tell when the flashers and turn signals still work when I remove all of the relays.

I believe the relay is incorporated into the instrument cluster; i.e. it is not a separate part.
