FS: 55 swapped C43
For sale is my old Obsidian Black 1999 C43 with ‘55’ naturally aspirated AMG engine swap from a 2001 E55. The car is currently registered to my parents, but they have asked me to list it for sale. Reason for sale is that they want to trim down the collection of cars in their garage, and thus will take a huge loss in the car (let alone my sweat equity).
Purchased the car in rough shape in November 2009. Body now has about 245,000 km, but was painted in 2010, with new front fenders at the time. Engine has roughly 112,000 km. Car currently sits on 18” staggered Monoblocks with basically new Yokohoma all season tires. The stock grille has been Plasti-Dipped black. Stock exhaust. Low mileage (ie, did it a while ago but barely driven the car since) Mobil1 gear oil swapped into the diff. Recent Mobil1 0/40 engine oil, Mann oil filter, Mercedes coolant and Fuchs Titan ATF. OE Mercedes rubber all weather mats. 17” Monoblock full size spare. Ashtray deleted, and replaced with OE Mercedes storage bin and 12v socket. Interior wood trim painted to match exterior. Unknown torque and horsepower, but the car is pretty quick, and certainly much faster than before. Stock E55 makes 350hp and 390 ft lbs. The increased torque is really noticeable in the smaller C Class chassis. Also replaced during my ownership of the car: one of the side view mirror glass and one headlight lens (these are pricey pieces!). Aftermarket 6000k (if I remember right) HID kit in the factory fog lights. Also aftermarket clear corners.
The following is a list of new parts within the last 5-10,000km (mostly closer to 5,000 km):
· Bilstein Sport shocks;
· Vogtland springs, with #4 pads rear, #5 pads front – nice one finger gap all around;
· steering damper;
· KMac front camber/castor kit;
· all rear suspension arms;
· ball joints;
· transmission front oil pump;
· transmission conductor plate connector;
· front flex disc;
· engine mounts;
· transmission mount;
· front and rear main seals;
· MAF sensor;
· crank pulley;
· valve cover gaskets;
· oil filter and test port gaskets;
· intake manifold gaskets;
· throttle body gaskets;
· power steering pump;
· belt tensioner;
· serpentine belt;
· staggered tires;
· ALL coolant hoses;
· upgraded to C32/C55 4-piston front brake calipers with new OE rotors (345mm) and pads;
· new rear rotors and pads;
· Stoptech stainless brake lines at all four corners.
Issues – the car has some rust starting on the underside of the sills and starting again at the leading edge of the sunroof. The KMac bushings squeak at low speed bumps. The pneumatic seats pump up nicely, but do not hold the air more than a minute or so. Haven’t located the leak, but haven’t spent much time looking either. Several months after the car was painted in 2010 (and about a week before my wedding!), the car suffered a minor rear ender. Eventually was repaired to a very high standard with new rear bumper, trunk lid and emblems. Carproof shows a hit in the front sometime before my ownership commenced, but no signs of damage at the front structure. Stereo is not original (original didn’t recognize CD changer). Current stereo is a rather dated CD only unit.
Can include some spares as follows: 17” Monoblocks, two with worn winter tires, two with no tires (robbed these for use on my Audi winter beater); spare salvage ‘rain gutter’ plastic trim that sits beneath windshield, as original was cracked and repaired; brand new front bumper skeleton (in case the front bumper ever gets damaged); original C43 brake calipers; original corner lamps.
Asking a very reasonable C$9,750.00. Likely cost at least twice that to build. Canadian dollar is roughly equivalent to USD. Fly in and drive out if you like, I’ll meet you at the airport – my parents’ place is only 20 minutes from the airport!

I will send this for sale thread link to my brother in Edmonton. He might be interested.
Do you have it listed in other sites like kijiji?
PM me your cell number so I can relay it to him.

Not on kijiji yet - have to sort that out soon. BTW, also contemplating selling my supercharged S2000. Have been bitten by the 911 bug!
I'll PM you right away though.

Oh, boy...yesterday, locally was made two offers. One well below the asking price, which was summarily rejected. The other was for a trade (presumably straight across!) for an '01 Honda Prelude. Jayz...

Well, apparently the Honda only has about 130,000 km on it! Wow, what a bargain!!
At any rate, if anyone is actually seriously interested, there is room to negotiate, but only within reason. I'd rather part it out and put it back to stock-ish condition than flog it for pennies.

Hello, I have had the C43 before and sold it early this year to my friend in Dallas. I went down there last week to the Vintage car racing in TX and drove it from Dallas to Austin, I did not realize how good a car it was, so I an out looking again. Your story and what you did to the car is pretty amazing . You talked about taking some of the suspension back to normal to get eliminate the noise issues did you do that or is it still the same. Please call 816-830-4208 as I am very interested Thanks

Congrats. Hope the new owner appreciates the beast and all of the sweat, blood, and tears that went into it.
