Questions about Akebono pads?

It seems like I don't have much of meat left to grind of my Portersfield brake pads.
Perhaps within 2 years I will have to change my pads.
I don't drive my car much.
I had these pads on my car since 2005, they were used for approx 40000Km.
The idea is when my Porterfields are worn out I will install my newer 4 pot brake kit from W203 C55AMG.

I bought Akebono's Euro Ceramcs for my new brake kit.
The design of the Akebono pads on backside there is a metal plate on each pads.
Do I apply copper paste on these metal plates preventing squeeky brakes?

Who has Akebono's on his car?
Do you like these pads?
Is there great stopping power?
Are these pads rotor friendly?
Long life pads?
How clean are the rims from brake dust?

Thanks

I have the same pads on my ML. They are quiet and no dust.

I would NOT buy these again though. Severely less stopping power than the oem pads. Instantly on first drive I noticed they don't grab as well. Much more pedal required and overall less power. I tow my boat and snowmobiles a lot and it sucks with these, I would never buy again.

thanks for the info bud.

everyone else rated these greatly on this forum?
maybe these not suitable for your ML jeep?
original pads are always the best, but they give more dirty rims

Take things here with a grain of salt. They'll work, yes. But if you're in tuned with your vehicles and like good braking, I would not get.
All oem on my c class. Yes they dust bad, but they work so well. You said you don't drive the car much, so who cares about dust, just keep them clean

people praised Porterfields R4s pads, they work great and no squeeks from braking.
the same reviews was for Akebono's so I got them by peoples recommendations for my new brake kit.

I just use liquid eco degreasing and then hose my car with water, never use schampoo as she never gets really dirty same thing goes with rims, Porterfields have soft dust which comes off easilly.

Jurid's are original on my C43 and they are the BEST!
However rims gets very filthy from dust

I went with Hawks HPS pads and have been really happy. They grab really well and further you go in the pedal the harder they grab. I feel like they have a very progressive feel. I've never tried akebono but I would buy the HPS again. They did squeak a little bit at some point but very minor

all pads needs bedding in period for proper wear and preventing squeeks.
Porterfields has till now been VERY quiet and giving me great performance

I just put the Akebono Euro pads and Centric Cryo Treated rotors on my rears. At the same time I did a brake fluid flush and put Goodridge SS brake lines all around. Pads are clean and quiet and I did notice some brake improvement but that could have been due to the other changes to some degree.

I bought them from TireRack and the reviews were very favorable.

I have Akebono Euro Ceramics on my C280 and E430. They don't dust much. The pedal pressure is slightly higher. Brake feel is much more progressive than the M/B pads. I can still invoke the ABS in an emergency stop so I don't see any deterioration in stopping power (if you can invoke lockup, i.e. ABS, then the remaining factor is tire grip).

The are quiet on the C280, but squeak badly when I first back out of the garage cold on the E430.

On my ML350, the M/B pads don't dust as badly and brake pedal pressure is progressive, so I will likely keep them on that vehicle. If fact, with the stock pads for the ML the feel and pedal pressure is very much like the C and E.

What are the Akebono part # for 1998 C43 front and rear pads?

Front - EUR682 is this correct? Tirerack.com shows it's compatible with the 1998 model. But when I search online from other vendors it's only compatible for the 1999 & 2000 model . I emailed akebono-usa hopefully they reply back

Rear - EUR603... I believe this is correct

Ive had these on both my M3 and C32AMG, and IMO they don't have great stopping power. They are low dust, that's about the only good thing about them.

I have them on the rear of my C43 and Hawk HPS on the front. The Akebono's squeal very badly in the morning when I back out and they are cold. That is the only time they do it, but it could wake the dead. As far as stopping power, I couldn't comment as I have the Hawks on the front and they do most of the work.

I just got these pads for the front and back from Tirerack, waiting for my OEM rear rotors & sensors from ECStuning will be installing them soon. Currently using OEM pads front and back for some reason I get lots of brake dust on the front within a week...I'm hoping the akebono will be less dirty..

Don't you have to break in the pads to have them working at their best. I can deal with squealing at start but don't know about waking the dead

Dusting of the rims is a good thing in terms of knowing the pads are doing the job. I would never get Akebonos again for the same reasons guys are saying. I went with EBC yelllow stuff!!. Hope to put them on soon after I get my rotors cut next week.

Show me the links on the EBC pads i would definitely be interested to see even though I purchased them already. The Akebonos I'm only talking from personal experience I dont like their performance.

So you want feedback on the EBC yellows? I've had them on the vehicle both front and rear since the brakes overhaul I did in 2012, together with new drilled OE rotors, SS hoses front and rear, Super blue fluid, etc.

First of all they do dust but LESS than the OE pads. The initial bite from cold is very good in all conditions. However, I am NOT happy with resistance to long term fade. OK, I drive very hard in the mountains (traffic permitting of course) and going downhill the fade kicks in relatively fast after two or three hairpins, with some hair raising instances when I first discovered this phenomena.

I contacted the manufacturer in the UK and it would seem that the compound in the yellows was modified not too long ago. Perhaps mine purchased in 2011 were of the older generation. In any case, with the next change of pads (not scheduled for the moment...$$$) I'll go back to trusted Padig racing pads. They NEVER fail and I've used them extensively in my Porsche racing days of past. Never, never faded even when the rotors were intense red all the time. Unfortunately they no longer list pads for the C43, but if I recall correctly you can get front pads for the VW Golf R32, as they are the same.

OK well that is very good to know especially in the case of my Mitsubishi which I will be roadracing. I have Mustang Cobra brakes on the front and brembos in the back of my Mitsu and yellow stuff pads I bought recently. I think I will get the Pagid pads for the front and leave the yellows in the rear.

The red stuff should be fine for the C43 I would suspect since there is no kind of mountain driving here in NYC whatsoever. Seems like the EBC would be good for the street but are compromised under extreme driving conditions is my take on what you are saying correct?

I am also hoping mine are the newer compound since I just bought them.
