TIRE ADVICE

Hey guys, need some help again. trying to get everything wrapped up with my new wheels. I got the 5 spoke amg's from a E55 18x8.5F +30 offset 18x9.5R +35 offset. My question is what size tire to run in the rear? I was told by my friend he ran a 265 with H&R springs, but I have no idea if he had to roll or modify and don't know what size pads he ran. I will be running H&R springs with #4 pads all around for a more friendly daily(my commute is 5 min each way, so keeping the miles down ) can anyone advise if a 265/35 would be good or should I go with a 255/35 to be safe?
I don't want to modify the body if I can avoid it. any help would be appreciated. I will be getting everything done this week and put up some pics.

Mine has 255/35s in the rear and it looks a bit tight but has not rubbed, even at full squat on the dyno. I have the H&Rs but I don't know what pads so I'm no help there. Can't wait to see pics!

yea 255/35 is what you want in the rear. there is decent selection in that size vs the 265 and the 255/35 also gives you the correct overall diameter and no rubbing.

also unless you have done the 5.4 swap the 10mm wider tire in the rear wont make any difference. the car has more than enough grip in the rear with the 255 especially if you run proper pressures. the front is where we need wider...

Heres a pic of what i had to do. I just had to trim off the little plastic molding a bit from the inside and slightly bend the bottom of the wheel frame or whatever you might call it. I guess you could say i rolled the rear fender all the way down since its only rolled up to a certain point from the factory

Now since you have same offset and your rim is half inch wider, im pretty sure you will get same fitment as me with 255s

As you can see i run 265s in the rear. I also had to pull out the lining from the inside. The only problem with that is the dust shoots up and slightly comes up from between the rear bumper and trunk lid but there is no rubbing at all in the rear even tbo i run lowest pads.

Id have my trunk loaded with groceries and have both of my parents in the car which tucks the rear wheel in by a few inches lol but still no rub

Agree 100% with everything said here. Especially the part about the 265 being TALLER, that is not good and can mess with the car. Plus it's unecessary.

Anyway ask the tire manufacturer for real Diameter values to ensure compatibility with electronics.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys! I just got the suspension all done. H&R springs with bilstein sports and #4 pads all around, Ride height now seems perfect, and the car feels way more solid now with the new dampers and springs. I finally got the wheels tonight, and am going to go with the advice here and run 255's in the rear and running 225/40 in the front, give me your thoughts on the front..I will try to post pics of the car how it sits now too.

My car has 215/40s up front and they look stretched and too small. The interesting thing is that the PO took the 225/40s off the fronts in favor of the smaller tire. I'll jump to the larger size when it's time to change these out.

you are right on in the fronts. 225 is pretty much the only size that works. nothing really available in 235, and 245 is a bit too wide and will rub. its hard to believe that you really cant go wider in the front but without modifications or being OK with some rubbing that seems to be the case.

for the H&R springs, did you go with the sport (1.2" drop) or the super sport (2"drop)?

With 17" you can go as wide as 245 and 275 on the back. I remember speedybenz's car had that setup

I dont know the offset of the rims tho

I went with the sports, but it seemed like a huge drop. Now with the #4 17mm pads it seems more practical.

The weird thing is, I was getting a slight rub on the right rear wheel with the stock 245's and the H&R's with the stock shocks and stock pads. It was only on hard left turns. Im thinking that shock was blown, but Im not sure.

Might want to do a detailed inspection of the bushings.. Also look for the spot it's rubbing.

yea looks good. you are right that drop does look like alot. were they new springs? they look like that are already "settled".
Im debating on swapping my euro springs for the H&R sport, but no direct feedback on them being any stiffer than that ones i have.
