Was giving my friend a lift today on my 95 C36 (4 spd ), as I tried to pass the truck on the freeway, I manually shift from 4 to 3 at 60 mph then shift back to 4th at about 80 mph. My friend then gave me a lecture about that act is harmfully for the older style tranny (he heard it from a "Technican")
.......Really?.....Am I driving wrong all these years??

its not wrong, unless youre red lining it every time out. AMG's are meant to be driven. doesnt sound like abouse unless the rpms are revving out of control.

if memory serves me correct, the owner's manual tells u to downshift urself using the automatic lever if u need it...as long as u don't bounce the revs by shifting at too high a speed for the certaing gear u'r going into....
That's what I remembered too!
Thanks for clarify things up.
Gotta go make fun of some friend now.

As long as the motor oil and trans oil are warm shift and rev away. If it is below the redline its fair game. Your friend was clearly wrong. Keep the pol changed every 3k and the C36 motor is good to go!
