I can vouch for George's craftsmanship, and the enlarged box really works very well. It lets the engine really breath fully.

I concur. George's modified airboxes are fantastic. Here are some comparison pictures for anyone that is on the fence of buying them.

You will get similar performance to the RennTech airbox while maintaining the clean OEM look, at a much more reasonable price:

@MattCordell I've had it installed for ~7,000 miles. No check engine light codes and no issues.

The engine is slightly louder on low RPM and much louder above 3,000 RPM when I floor it. It doesn't make the car sound worse at idle or while driving.

If you like the sound of the M113 engine then it just amplifies that elegant sound and gives a little more horsepower.

It doesn't sound annoying, but it is more aggressive at higher RPM than stock while maintaining the classy Mercedes V8 sound. The engine comes alive in a good way.

If you live in California then you can still pass smog with this because no one can tell that the intake is modified to be 1" larger.

Update: George can produce a 2" and 3" modified airboxes. I purchased the 2" version to avoid fitment issues with the engine wiring harness.

That was a good review.
Thanks

After fitting airbox, the sound is now more of a muscular V8 rumble heard from the exhaust?
Geezer driving, the intake and exhaust sound I assume is quite normal?
Only when you floor it the sound of the car transforms into a wild beast but in an awesome way for a V8 car?

I do like the M113 sound, I removed my rear cats and mid silencer, sounds very lovely when I drive my car.
No need for the stereo to be turned on anymore.

It's my pleasure. I have a 5.4 M113 V8, Eisenmann exhaust, rear cats deleted, and SuperSprint resonator/silencer.

I'm willing to bet that my car's exhaust is quieter than yours because you have the mid resonator/silencer removed.

Here are the responses to your questions:
  1. Exhaust Sound Difference: Yes and no. The upgraded intake manifold's sound improvement comes from the engine. Upgrading your intake will not have a big affect on the low-end sound, but it does allow for a little more airflow through the exhaust. Upgrading your headers and muffler would do significantly more for the exhaust note than upgrading your intake manifold.
  2. Geezer Driving: If it sounds normal with your current setup then it should sound the same with the modified intake. There will be a small improvement.
  3. Sport Driving: Yes, this is where you will notice the biggest difference. It will sound awesome.

In normal situations driving my car, it isn't very loud from the pipes but will still be noticed by bystanders.
When I play with the throttle people do hear the V8 rumble, it's a pleasent sound.

The raised airbox modification, it still holds up from the massive heat in the engine bay?
On hot summer days I can cook a T-bone on top of the intake.

@MattCordell it shouldn't cause any additional heat to your engine bay. People have supercharged their C43s and that adds considerably more heat than the upgraded intake.

My last w202 was a C230 and it had over 400,000 miles on it with an intake installed (not from George). This is not a mod that will jeopardize your engine's integrity in the long run.

Denis, if you are afraid of heat getting into the airbox, I covered all the underside in gold sheeting. Looks nice even unfortunately you don't see it unless you look under the box. I'm persuaded it does keep out radiant heat, but in any case as soon as you stop, the heat is going to seep into the intake. After some driving forward the temps inside will go done as the airflow gets moving.

BTW to improve more the airflow to both intake scoops, I cut out the plastic protections in the front of the grille

Gold sheeting on the underside of the enlarged air-box

Drilled holes to make the cutting easier

Protection cover cut away

@ DRB43AMG

I can see you have bling bling gold wrap on the underside of the airbox.
Took some time to cut and put on the airbox.
You made it look good.

Problem with our cars is the cramped engine bay fitted with a big sized engine for the W202 cooking every non metal part like vacuum and intake hoses.
Dry rotted hoses won't hold vacuum sealed tight.
Now and then these rubber hoses needs to be replaced.

Just wanted to write that the air boxes for the c43 are $445 to $545 shipped. 50 more if you live in California.

So hope people read this as I’ve had people asking me how much….
