High Idle RPM on Cold Start

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to run this by the folks here as this is my first AMG and wasn't sure if this is normal.

When I cold start my C43 it immediately goes to idling at about ~1400 RPM. If I then immediately put it in gear it drops down to around ~800RPM.

However, after I've driven it for a bit (not even fully warmed up) its idle goes down to the usual ~500-600 RPM. And it stays there until the car is fully cooled down again.

Is this something I should have checked out? Everything on the car has been running great. I have had no issues otherwise so I just wanted to get some opinions on this.

Thanks,
Zero

Sounds like it is working just as it should.

Yeah I figured this may just be the engine idling higher due to the cold start temperature. But as I said, its my first AMG and wasn't sure. My last car wasn't a performance vehicle so it didn't vary the idle much between cold vs warm start.

My W204 did that. I never put it in gear until the RPMs dropped. I'm really **** about making sure my cars are warmed up.

Yea, this is normal. Mine does the same thing. You get a higher RPM and fuel rich mixture to help have more complete combustion until everything warms up.

It only lasts for a few seconds and the rpms drop - a quick initial warm up. I always wait for the drop (but no less then 10-15 seconds) to get everything nicely lubed up then I drive off gently.

I might be wrong but I believe some newer cars have a higher start up idle for a few seconds in order to warm up the catalytic converter.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Glad to know its normal and expected. Man do I love this car... I don't think I've smiled this much in ages.
