I actually asked the same question of my service agent when i picked up my C43 coupe in November. He told me " No break in period because the engine is a more mainstream robot built engine versus the one man engine build of the of the 63" With that being said just like any brand new car, I would take it somewhat easy for first 1,000 miles or so. It is tough to do, you want to dial up sport+ and let it rip.

Best of luck on your new purchase. I have the White/Red combo and love it!

Was told the same thing by my agent. I asked about the breaking in because I know that the cars are driven somewhat harder than normal on the test drives.

Same advice as above although I wouldn't baby it-kind of like it's recommended to have varying speeds and not sit on the highway on cruise control for the whole period.

I totally agree about varying the speed and working the car through it paces instead just babying at a constant speed. That is exactly what i did.
Getting the car in the northeast during winter somewhat hindered going crazy anyways.

The only minor issues that i have had thus far, which is similar to others on here:

-After start up the parking brake is sometimes slow to release; not really a big deal.

-the transmission does gets weird sometimes at intersections. If you are going quick to the intersection and have to slow down (but not a full stop) to let a car turn; when you try to re-elecelerate the transmission gets confused what gear to be in. The problem is that the car won't move until it sorts it self out (actually bucks), which is dangerous if you are in the middle of an intersection. It has only done this twice in 4,000 miles so i am thinking maybe just an anomoly or the transmission was cold. If it happens again i will bring the car in for service.

The operator manual disagrees with your service agent. Have a look at page 135 where it clearly indicates that break-in is required for all vehicles.
The more you look after the engine when it is new, the more satisfied you will be with its performance in the future.

* You should therefore drive at varying vehicle and engine speeds for the first 1000 miles (1500 km).
* Avoid heavy loads, e.g. driving at full throttle, during this period.
* When changing gears manually, change up in good time, before the tachometer needle reaches 2/3 of the way to the red area of the tachometer.
* Do not manually shift to a lower gear to brake the vehicle.
* Try to avoid depressing the accelerator pedal beyond the pressure point (kickdown).
* All vehicles (except Mercedes-AMG vehicles): ideally, for the first 1,000 miles (1,500 km), drive in drive program E.

Additional breaking-in notes for Mercedes-AMG vehicles:
* Do not drive faster than 85 mph (140 km/h) for the first 1,000 miles (1,500 km).
* Only briefly allow the engine to reach a maximum engine speed of 4,500 rpm.
* Change gear in good time.
* Ideally, for the first 1,000 miles (1,500 km), drive in program C.

After 1000 miles (1500 km), you can increase the engine speed gradually and accelerate the vehicle to full speed.

You should also observe these notes on breaking in if the engine or parts of the drive train on your vehicle have been replaced.

The weird "slow-to-engage" transmission problem that occurs during re-acceleration from deceleration has been the utmost most annoying and biggest disappointment of this car. I would think that they have solved it with the upgrade to the 9-speed in the C43 but really disappointed that it hasn't. And you're right, it is extremely dangerous and not just at intersections but in situations where I am trying to switch lines in city traffic when there is a double parked vehicle in one lane and an incoming vehicle in the lane I'm switching to. I have found myself in "dead-pedal" situations in those occurrences , and they are not fun at all!!!

Also, if I may add something more relevant to this thread pertaining to the break-in period. I drove it in sports+ the moment I received my vehicle but I made sure I kept it under 5k rpm and never exceeded 90mph during the first 1000miles.

I'm not driving an AMG variant, but I have found that the quickest way to get my car to re-awaken after engine-braking to a near stop is to completely let off the throttle, then step down again. It (at least my car) reacts more quickly than just waiting to be hit by that semi coming at you.

Damn I've had the car in Sports + for the first 120km so far, lol. Guess I will have it on Eco mode for the next 900km. Atleast I can still have the PE on

Also great pickup @alland30 ! Got the same combo a few weeks ago. Love it.

And how many miles now?

I have just over 1000 miles and when that bug hits me, I will probably go with AMR. Right now I'm enjoying what came with the the car.

I subscribe to the Motoman mentality of engine break-in i.e. use the power!

I am just over 3k and loving it! I am surprised the bug hasn't hit you yet lol it hit me with the quickness. AMR is the choice for sure and I saw they are offering a sale right now that I didn't get to take advantage of, was slightly upset about it haha but good luck with the car, its gorgeous!
